Men's Golf Newsletter - August 2014

*** A big thank you to the ladies golf group for a great 4th of July firecracker 2200 golf tournament. Approximately 40 golfers had a great time and there was some good golf played in spite of the heat. Taking first place was the team of Jim & Thelma Duncan, Alex Bellinger and Richard Quasius. Closest to the pin for men was awarded to Dave Williams. Closest to the pin for women was awarded to Thelma Duncan. Longest drive for men was awarded to Chuck Von Trapp. Longest drive for women was awarded to Gloria Williams.

*** The Labor Day tournament will be the next one on the list. Watch the bulletin boards for details. Let's try to have just as good a turn out .

*** The starters for August are : Thursday: Bill Hoffner - 766-1762 Saturday: Harry Fannin & Helen McNair.

*** Don't forget your sunscreen and water when you're going to be out in the sun. More people get severe sunburn and dehydration leading to sunstroke during August and September than any other month.

*** In an effort to help the USGA with their campaign to speed up play , I will be sending them one of my ideas every month, which I will post on our newsletter. My idea for August is:

"Should any golfer strike the flag stick on the fly, either on the tee shot on a par three or the approach shot on a par four and it does not go in the cup, he will be allowed to place the ball within the "blow range" without penalty. After all it isn't his fault if the ball bounces ten feet away. Note: For clarification on the "blow range" rule, see the July newsletter.
