Kathielinna Cheam

Position: Vice President

My name is Kathielinna Cheam and I am a first-year student. Student government/council has always been a part of my life. In high school, I was elected to become the class representative for my senior class. Entering college, I wanted to be more involved and was elected to be the Vice-President my sophomore year. I was then voted to become President my last year.

My main focus as part of student government/counsel is was to bring the student body together as a whole and to be the voice of the students. In the past, I have organized events that embodied student participation. For example, my classmates and I organized an event for the student body to explain the consequences of drinking and driving. We were able to get the local police and firefighters involved for a mock accident where one of their own students was a victim of drunk driving.

I want to become part of student government so that I can be the voice of the students. Last year, in my last year of undergrad and last goal as President, was to get a new coffee machine for the students. After meetings and petitions, we were finally able to get a new machine and the students finally stopped complaining. As I walked around and asked for signatures, the majority of the students have either complained or have asked about a new coffee situation. Of course, it is not going to get done in a blink of an eye, but in situations like the one mentioned, as the voice of the students, I will try my hardest to listen to your needs and try to accommodate to the best of my abilities.

To be part of the student government, it gives me more reasons to interact with the students. Becoming Vice President, I will be honored to work with the students and listen to their needs and be the voice for those who are too shy to speak. As Vice President, I will work hard with the President to make the student body a whole and cater to certain needs. I would love to become more involved with the students and with your votes, I will be honored and privileged to be the voice you didn’t know you had. Thank you for your votes and support!
