Early/Middle College State Reporting Procedures

Early Middle College Students in an Early Middle College Building

If the Early Middle College isdefined as a physical building in the Educational Entity Master at the state, all participating county high schools listed need to be listed as members.

Students attending the Early Middle College must be in grades 9 through 12 or an error will occur in MSDS. In addition, the student record cannot contain codes "01", "02", "03", "04", "18" or "30" in the District Exit Status in the Enrollment component or an error will occur.

In PowerSchool, code these students the following way:

State/Province-MI > Demographics tab

MSDS School or Facility Number field. The Early/Middle College State Assigned Number should be entered in this field.

The name of this field is S_MI_STU_GC_X.adminUnit.

State/Province-MI > General Ed 5-19 tab

Early Middle College Program field must be checked.

When this field is checked, the program participation code for Early/Middle College (3500) will be exported when you run the MI General/SRM/Early Childhood collection.

Graduating Students who drop out of the program prior to completing the 13th year

Students attending an Early Middle College program who complete their 12th year and dropout of the program during the 13th year and do not complete the Early Middle College program should be sent to the state with an exit code of 41(Graduated Middle College with a High School Diploma). The exit code 41 indicates that they were in the EMC through the school year during which they completed their diploma requirements but they did NOT complete the post-secondary portion of the EMC plan. They become off-track graduates and their associated cohort year drops back to the original year.
