Volunteers Needed for Lexington Road Planting

This Saturday, join my staff and me in another phase of the Lexington Road improvements between Cross Hill and Top Hill Roads on Saturday, March 24th from 8:30 am – Noon. We will be planting the hillside along Lexington Road. Volunteers are needed for a variety of duties ranging from digging holes for the plants and trees, watering, mulching and general cleanup. Please come help us with the next phase of planting. Louisville Pure Tap Water will be available. Please consider bringing your own water bottle to fill.

Crescent Hill Great Yard Sale

Great Yard Sale is scheduled for Saturday, April 21st from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. rain or shine at the Peterson-Dumesnil House Lawn, 301 S Peterson Avenue. Come shop and support the neighborhood's historic landmark. Donate items before 9:00 am to be sold at the White Elephant Sale for the Peterson-Dumesnil House Foundation.

Tents are available to rent to sell your personal yard sale items or arts and crafts. Cost is $20 for a space; tables/chairs not provided. To participate send a $20 check - payable to the Peterson-Dumesnil House Foundation - no later than April 13th; include your name, address, e-mail and/or phone number. Late submissions will be charged $25 if space is available. Envelopes should read:

World Water Day 2012

On Thursday, March 22nd EDGE Outreach will launch a social media campaign aimed at raising awareness of the global water crisis. Field Elementary E-cycle Pickup Event

Do you have electronic items at your home or business that you no longer use?
Field Elementary School, located at 120 Sacred Heart Lane, will be hosting an E-cycle Pickup Event with Bluegrass E-cycle on March 31st from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Field parking lot. Responsibly recycle your old electronics and help raise funds for Field Elementary at the same time. They will accept stereo equipment, DVD players, TVs (one per household), CRTs (one per household), printers, fax and copy machines, computers, LCDs, servers, network equipment, telecom equipment, phones, and any other business/office electronics. Volunteer at St. Joseph Children’s Home

There are lots of volunteer opportunities available at St. Joseph Children’s Home to fit different schedules and different levels of commitment:

·  THRIFT STORE REOPENING! The thrift store should reopen in April! Volunteers are needed Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays 8:30am-1:30pm to help in the store. Weekly or monthly commitment. Additionally, they will soon be collecting donations to help restock the thrift store! Please contact St. Joe’s if you wish to be notified once they begin accepting donations!

·  ON-GOING - Saturdays 6:45-8:30pm: Volunteer with the Residential Children for Saturday evening activities (games/movies/reading). Weekly or monthly commitment.

·  ON-GOING - Saturdays 10am-12pm: Craft activities with our kiddos! Weekly or monthly commitment.

·  ON-GOING - Beautification Committee: they would like to start up a volunteer-run beautification committee to help with landscaping and gardening. Contact them with ideas or to sign up!

·  April 4th-6th: Help design and decorate a float with their Foster Care department for the Frankfort Avenue Easter Parade (flexible times)

·  August 12th: Yes, its months away, but they need volunteers to help clean up after the picnic! Sign up now! (Times are flexible)

Saturday, March 24: Join the 9th District office and volunteers as we continue planting, mulching, weeding and watering Lexington Road between Top Hill and Cross Hill Roads. Volunteers should plan to arrive at 8:30 a.m. and park along Top Hill Road. We will supply water and gloves. This is a great opportunity to earn service hours! Questions please call 574-1109.

Saturday, March 24: The Miracle Worker presented by the American Printing House for the Blind, 1839 Frankfort Avenue, at 11:00 a.m. The Miracle Worker dramatizes the efforts made by the visually impaired Annie Sullivan to teach the blind-and-deaf Helen Keller how to communicate.The staged reading of the play features actors who have a connection to the story like no other—they are blind, themselves, and will be reading the script in braille. Monday, March 26: Cooper Clayton Smoking Cessation classes sponsored by the American Printing House for the Blind and Louisville Metro Public Health and Wellness begin Monday March 26 from Noon – 1:00 p.m., at American Printing House for the Blind, located at 1839 Frankfort Ave. This FREE program consists of 13 one-hour weekly sessions. Participants use nicotine replacement products such as the nicotine patch, nicotine gum, or nicotine lozenge (FREE to class attendees).
