CLASSIFIED APPLICATION FOR SALARY ADVANCEMENT

(EFFECTIVE 2015-2016)

If you are planning on enrolling in a college course(s), seminars, workshops and/or trainings for the purpose of salary increase during the 2014-2015 school year, the following criteriaMUST be followed in order to be considered for professional growth compensation for 2015-2016 school year.

  1. The “APPLICATION FOR SALARY ADVANCEMENT” must be completed prior to enrollment of the course(s), seminars, workshops and/or trainings.

This allows the immediate supervisor to pre-approve the course(s), seminars, workshops and/or trainings for advancement. All coursework, seminars, workshops and/or trainings MUST be directly related to the employee’s job description and/or job assignment.

It is important to note that courses that are required for the employee’s position; paid for by the District; were attended during the normal work day hours; or for which the employee received compensation and/or leave days are NOT eligible for professional growth compensation.

This form must be submitted to the employee’s direct supervisor on or before February 15thpreceding the school year for which the additional compensation is requested. Supervisors/Principals must forward the Application for Salary Advancement to the Human Resources Department, no later than March 1st.

  1. The Superintendent will review the application for final authorization and approval of the requested salary advancement. The Superintendents decision will be the final decision on acceptance or denial of the request for professional growth compensation.
  1. Once the approval has been granted,the employee has the responsibility of providing official transcripts and/or certificate of attendance supporting this request and MUST be in the Superintendent’s office no later than September 15th of the school year for which the additional compensation is requested. The original form and transcripts will be retained in the Human Resource’s office as a part of the employee’s record. A copy of the request form will be returned to the employee.
  1. Coursework, seminars, workshops and/or trainings must not have been previously submitted for compensation. Any violation of this protocol may result in discipline including a recommendation for dismissal.
  1. All professional development hours that are submitted for consideration must have been taken after current hire date.
  1. ALL CONSIDERATION FOR PROFESSIONAL GROWTH WILL BE BASED UPON THE ANTICIPATED FUNDING LEVELS FOR THE 2015-2016 FISCAL YEAR AND THAT APPROVAL OR DENIAL WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE JUNE BOARD MEETING.
  1. Professional Growth Addendums will be presented for School Board approval at the October board meeting. Professional Growth Addendums will be added to employees current hourly rate as follows:
  • 12 credit hours = 1% of employees current hourly rate
  1. In the case of seminars and workshop/training requests, other proof of attendance, i.e. certificate of completion, will be required and the time spent will be equated as follows: Fifteen (15) clock hours equals one (1) semester credit hour. A maximum of Ninety (90) clock hours or six (6) semester credit hours will be allowed in any one year, remaining courses must be acquired from an accredited college or university.

The February 15th deadline is set to allow administration to begin budget preparation for the upcoming school year.

Directions:

  • Employee’s immediate Supervisor must pre-approved courses to be taken. Superintendent has final authority in granting requests for salary advancement. A copy of this form will be returned to the applicant.
  • In order to transfer on the salary schedule, the official transcript(s) must be on file in the District office on or before September 15th to be eligible for the salary increase.
  • COMPLETION OF THIS FORM AND PRE-APPROVAL IS NECESSARY PRIOR TO ENROLLMENT OF COURSE(S) IF YOU WISH TO CLAIM CREDIT FOR MOVEMENT ON THE SALARY SCHEDULE.

The Application for Salary Advancement is due to your immediate supervisor by February 15th to claim credit for the following school year. Supervisor must forward the application to Human Resources Department no later than March 1st.
