ESD Smock Validation Test

Purpose: Validate ESD Smock Meets Conductivity Compliance

H

Step / Action
1 / Locate a flat test work surface for testing smocks
2 / Ensure the test surface is clean
3 / Verify resistance test meter has current calibration sticker
4 / Using resistance meter test the work surface to ensure the resistance value is greater than 10e12 ohms
5 / Place two 5 pound test probes (weights) on the test surface to be used approximately 18 inches apart.
6 / Press the test button on the tester allow the meter to complete the test process, observe the reading on the meter which needs to be greater than 10e12
7 / Place the smock on the test surface in a manner that will allow placement of test weights on the sleeves and body of the smock (ensure the smock is not in contact with and other material or framework of the test table)
8 / Set your resistance test meter to high range unless you have an auto setting meter
9 / Place one 5 pound test weight on each sleeve of the smock next to the cuff

10 / Press the test button on the tester allow the meter to complete the test process, observe the reading on the meter
11 / Verify the reading on the meter is between 1x105 to 1x109 ohms sleeve to sleeve

Step / Action
12 / Next place one of the 5 pound weights on the bottom of the smock and leave one on one sleeve

13 / Press the test button on the tester allow the meter to complete the test process, observe the reading on the meter
14 / Verify the reading on the meter is between1x105 to 1x109ohms sleeve to bottom
15 / If any test readings are outside of the 1x105 to 1x109ohms requirement the smock should not be used
16 / Replace all smocks that test outside of the required performance spec of 1x105 to 1x109ohms
