Dear Ms. Sue Murphy,

My name is Chemay Shola and I’m an tenth grader at Camas High School located in Camas, WA. I’m a native Washingtonian my whole life and my heritage is a Tibetan. Vancouver and Camas are the two cities I call home. I’m writing to express my interest in being a student advisor for the Washington Science Olympiad state Board of Directors.

In elementary School I was exposed to leadership by being elected into my school’s student council through my elementary years. My family and I moved to Camas when I was in fifth grade. This is where I’ve had my first encounter with Science Olympiad. In fifth grade I joined my school’s Science Olympiad Team thinking that it’ll be the worst part of my life. The practices were boring, but at the competition it was a whole new level. I came to competition empty minded and thought myself as a fool. In sixth grade I joined Skyridge’s Science Olympiad team to redeem myself. I was hooked to Science Olympiad and ever since I’m in Science Olympiad. I plan to participate in Science Olympiad throughout my high school years. While on Skyridge I have won numerous awards. I’ve received a third place invitational medal and a first place regional medal for Anatomy. I’ve received a third place state medal for Maglev and I’ve received a first place medal for Green Generation at state. Last year and this year Camas High School won first place at the state tournament and went to nationals. I have served as a Student Advisor to the WSO state board from 2013-15 and am confident that I would contribute positively and represent the competitors of the amazing Washington Science Olympiad.

If you have any questions send me an e-mail at or my phone 360-844-5573. Thank you very much for giving up your precious time to look at my letter of intent.

Sincerely,

Chemay Shola
