MINUTES OF A SUNDRY MEETING HELD ON MONDAY THE 11TH OF OCTOBER 2010

AT 18:00 IN THE R.A ROOM

2010. SM1.1 ATTENDANCE The Chair welcomed councillors to the Sundry meeting.

2010. SM1.2 PRESENT

2010. SM1.3 APOLOGIES

An apology was received from the Treasurer and Project Manager.

2010. SM1.4 HALL REPRESENTATIVES

Founders and Allan Webb Halls do not have representatives. The Media Councillor extended the election period for these halls for 24 hours as per the constitution.

2010. SM1.5 SDB

The current SDB has not yet replied to council on matters regarding the hall rep elections.

2010. SM1.6 RESIDENCE COUNCILLOR

Council has decided to choose a provisional residence councillor.

2010. SM1.7 TRAINING

The previous SRC would like to continue training council, however council has decided to open training on an individual basis. Thus; the previous SRC will approach the relevant councillors and they will schedule a suitable time for training within that specific portfolio.

2010. SM1.10 SRC WEBSITE

Council at large has proposed to establish an SRC website to improve communication channels between the student body and SRC. The Media Councillor is to present a draft of the website at the next meeting.

2010. SM1.11 INSTITUTIONAL FORUM

This meeting should be based around tackling issues such as racism, equality and accessibility of resources. Activism and Transformation councillor has been tasked to find out these issues from the student body by conducting a survey.

2010. SM1.12 SOUTH AFRICAN UNIVERSITIES (SAUS)

SAUS has proposed to create one constitution for all South African ` Universities, thus this could lead to amendments in our constitution.

2010. SM1.13 CENENARY

The President has proposed to celebrate centenary and council conquered. The theme agreed upon is the timeline.

2010. SM1.14 PAN AFRICAN YOUTH DIALOGUE (PAYD)

PAYD has signed an agreement with the previous SRC to use the boardroom, however should an SRC member require to using it, preference is given to the SRC Councillor.

2010. SM1.15 UPCOMING EVENTS

·  CSD will be facilitating a tour on the 12th of October 2010.

·  SWOT WEEK: A motion to abandon SWOT Week treats, however council by majority decided to continue with the treats.

·  Student Forum Meeting to be held on the 19th of October 2010. Venue to be booked and confirmed by SRC Liaison.

2010. SM1.16 SRC EXECUTIVE

An executive meeting was held but there were no matters arising.

2010. M6.17 MATTERS ARISING FROM THE EXECUTIVE

2010. M6.18 REPORT BACK

·  Academic Councillor: The Academic councillor has reported that the Education Library will be moving to the main library and the Faculty Board will elect a transformation committee.

·  Societies Councillor: ASEM (A conglomerate of companies) wants to invest in Rhodes University sports. However this is highly unlikely as the conditions for this investment compromise the University’s control over sporting activities. The Societies Councillor an Information Technology Committee meeting ITC where a proposal to have lecture capturing was made. However, this proposal has been rejected as implementing lecture capturing would decrease student pass rates.
