Course Description

This course is a survey of a portion of the New Testament: Acts through Revelation. The course studies the nature and theological content of this portion of the New Testament.

Learning objectives

By the end of this course the student should be able to:

1. Summarize the basic contents and theology of the New Testament books covered in this class.

2. Summarize the critical and introductory issues in the New Testament

3. Recall significant texts/events in the New Testament

Bruce, F. F., Paul: Apostle of the Heart Set Free (Grand Rapids, Michigan: Eerdmans, 2000).

Elwell, Walter, and Robert Yarbrough, Encountering the New Testament: A Historical and Theological Survey, 3rd edition (Grand Rapids, Michigan: Baker Book House, 2013).

*As part of the requirements of this course, students are to read the New Testament

by 9 September 2017.

**Assigned readings from the required texts will be set in class.

DIPLOMA: Writing Assignments

1.  Student Summary of the New Testament (35%). Students will write their own summary of the books of the New Testament covered in this class. With a section on each book of the New Testament covered in this class (Acts through Revelation), students will write a summary of each book, including (1) the author, (2) the recipients, (3) the historical context, and (4) key theological content. This writing assignment should be approximately 3,500 words and submitted by 9 September 2017

2.  Final Exam (40%). Students will take a comprehensive Final Exam.

3.  Reading Report: New Testament (15%). Students will confirm that they have read all of the New Testament books covered in this class.

4.  Reading Report: Class Readings (10%). Students will confirm in writing that they have read all of the assigned reading, or will communicate what percentage of class readings they read.

Grades will be assigned according to the Seminary grading scale.

Final Exam 40%

Reading Report: New Testament 15%

CERTIFICATE: Writing Assignments

Students will write two essays in which they will apply principles/content from the course to their particular work and circumstances.The professor will provide details on these assignments before the course begins and during the class meetings.Each assignment will be 600-1000 words and submitted by

9 September 2017.
