We introduced and welcomed four new members to the PPG

We were notifiedby Derek Levy that he has now decided to discontinue his membership of the PPG. He has been thanked for his involvement in the group
and was informed that we would welcome him back at any time should he wish to do so.
Our best wishes and a speedy recovery were sent to Diana Oakes as she was unable to attend due to a stay in hospital, hopefully she will be back with us shortly.
NEW VIRTUAL GROUP
Leeds North CCG have now started a new virtual group for all patient groups in
their area. This has been designed by YooMee, a professional company who work for non- profit making organisations. A number of people have trialled this new idea and it is now at the stage where other members of the patient groups have been invited to attend a training session to be shown how this will operate.
Beverley Kite and Philip Elphick will attend this training session on Thursday 15th December to work with this new virtual group. Previously some of the patient group members requested that also face to face meetings of at least two a year should be incorporated to share ideas and learn from each other.
This has now been agreed by Leeds North CCG. Setting up our own social media pages will be discussed at the next meeting.
DISABLED CHAIRS FOR THE WAITING ROOMS IN THE PRACTICE
This will be discussed at our next meeting.
CARING HANDS UPDATE
Bill Boland explained that Caring Hands was doing well and passed out the
Practice Guidelines for Volunteers so that members were more informed regarding the project.
Referrals are now coming in to the project and Michelle gave us some statistics regarding the number of volunteers and clients visited.
The process we use for assessing the clients was explained to PPG members
and how we evaluate the project to satisfy the CCG. In January we are to have our first meeting with the CCG to look at our figures and to ascertain the type
of help we are able to give.
Peter (Connect Well coordinator) and Michelle (Caring Hands coordinator)
are working well together and referring to each other where appropriate.
We attended a Funding Fair to become more aware as to who and where we can obtain more funding when this is required. The project is hoping to start a Walking Group in the New Year, Bill Boland and Brian Mitchell attended a walking training day at Tech North recently in preparation for this new venture.
DIABETES DAY AT MILAN STREET SURGERY
We recently held a Diabetes day at Milan street surgery to encourage patients
to have their blood glucose checked and their blood pressure.
We had a diabetes stand and David Harris (PPG member) had a wonderful display about glaucoma which was very interesting giving advice about this subject.
Shaan’s pharmacy did the glucose monitoring for us and were very helpful throughout the day.
We had a tombola and managed to raise £23.15p for Diabetes UK
The number of patients attending was a little disappointing but one person was diagnosed as diabetic and two very likely to have the early stages of the disease. We were advised to hold the next one at 12-4pm as more people are likely to attend. We hope to do this again in February & this could become a regular event which will encourage more people to attend. We also wish to try this at Harrogate Road surgery at some point next year.
We were grateful for the staff at the practice who helped and for the PPG members who came to assist.
GENERAL PRACTICE FORWARD VIEW
Beverley handed out leaflets regarding the new GP five year plan and links to find out more.
The NHS is to commit more money in to this plan so that approximately another 5,000 GP’s can hopefully be employed in that five years. Changes to Urgent Care, improvement in hours and out of hours access and the use of technology to contact more patients will be introduced.
VOLUNTEERS
Following this meeting more volunteers from Caring Hands and members of staff from the practice came to join us for a social occasion where a buffet was provided for all who attended.
A really pleasant time was had by all who attended.
Thank you to everyone who came
NEXT MEETING
The next meeting will be held on Thursday 19th January 2017 at Harrogate Road surgery commencing at 6.15pm.
