Storytelling/ Art/ Literacy Project: January-March 2018

Oakfield Primary School are looking for a storyteller and a landscape/ landmark artist to develop and carry out a creative project with two classes of 28 children aged 6 and 7 (Year 2).

We are looking for a project that will enable the children to develop their Literacy skills through creative learning. Our topic is “All Aboard” focusing on Cardiff. We will be visiting castles (either Cardiff or Castell Coch.) We would like our creative practitioners to inspire us to write for lots of different purposes and genres and encourage us to talk about our work.

The project is expected to take place between January and March 2018. We would like a landscape/landmark artist to work with us on a Wednesday and Thursday afternoon (one afternoon per class) and a story teller to work with both classes over the course of two full days (dates to be agreed.)

In addition to this, there will be half a day for the practitioners to attend the school, meet informally with the pupils and take part in a planning session with the class teachers, as well ashalf a day for evaluation after the project has ended.

The budget available for practitioner’s time is £250 per full day, £125 per half day.

Artist: 14 ½ days, plus 2 x ½ days planning/ evaluation= £2000

Storyteller: 2 full days, plus 2 x ½ days planning/ evaluation= £750

The school would like to measure the impact of the project on literacy attainment, particularly in writing, oracy and engagement.

If you think your creative skills would help inspire and engage our learners, could you please email Antonia Doyle () with an expression of interest, along with your CV by Wednesday 8th November 2017. We will let you know by 5pm on 10th November 2017if you have been shortlisted for interview. Interviews will take place in the afternoon of Friday 17th November 2017.

If you are selected for the job you will have to complete a two day Arts Council Wales training session (if you have not previously done so) on 21-22 November 2017(Nantgarw) or 22-23 November 2017(Treforest). The course will explain more about the Lead Creative Schools Programme and working in schools. Please do not apply if you can’t attend this training. We look forward to hearing from you.
