Your progress in acting class will be measured frequently. Please view these as learning-aides to help you in understanding new information. This website has been designed to give you a time frame (Each Unit is equal to one week of classes.) on learning information needed and expected on Homework, Quizzes and Tests.

UNIT 1- PROTOCOLS OF ACTING CLASS, REHEARSALS, PERFROMING ARTS IN GENERAL

Please Review:

Rules of the studio: Respect for Dance and Theater Space

·  No gum, food or drink in the studio or waiting room.

·  No Street shoes in studio.

·  Be in acceptable dancewear for class.

·  Be on time, but if late, wait to be invited into class.

o  No excessive talking in the studio or waiting room.

·  All personal items are to be kept in a designated area and then taken at the end of class.

·  Please pick up any trash in the studio or waiting room.

·  Discipline

Rehearsal technique:

·  Preparation for rehearsals.

o  If possible be familiar with the show you have been hired for.

·  Rehearsal schedule.

o  A centralized schedule to assist in the planning of the day’s events.

·  How do you learn choreography?

·  How to work in a group.

o  Listen to notes given to other dancers to learn from them.

o  Keep quiet.

o  Work at 100%.

o  Don’t give notes to other dancers.

o  Raise hand for questions.

o  Be respectful to everyone.

Importance of warming up:

·  To prevent injuries.

·  To focus the mind.

·  To reshape the body.

·  To stretch tendons and muscles

UNIT 2- CONCEPTS OF CORRECT RELAXATION, SENSE MEMORY, BACKGROUND

Understand the importance of relaxation to:

·  Indentify habitual tension.

·  Reinforce concentration.

·  Quiet the mind.

·  Explore inner feelings

Understand the importance or recreating:

·  The five senses

·  Use pantomime to explore

Understand the importance and use of:

·  The 5 W’s

o  Who- am I

o  What- am I doing

o  When –is it

o  Where-am I

o  Why-am I there

·  Positive and creative atmosphere

Unit 13-SPRING BREAK

Unit 14- INTRO TO FILM

·  Marks : a place you must hit consitantly so you can be in focus.

·  Different shots

o  Master: Large shot

o  Necktie: Neck up.

o  Medium: Chest up.

o  Over the shoulder: A shot over the back of other actor.

o  Two Shot: Two actors share the shot.

·  Eyeline: What you look at.

Unit 15-COMMERCIAL TECHNIQUE

·  Entering Room: First impression to casting.

·  Slating: Statement of name and agent.

·  Improvisation: No lines, make up scene.

·  Product Placement : How to hold product so camera can see it.

·  Product Zing: Placing an emphasis on product.

·  Memorization:

·  Exiting: Last impression

Unit 20-FINAL EXAM for SENIORS will include:

·  Written test

·  Visual demonstration

·  Student will create 16 counts of choreography to favorite music using techniques learned in class.

Unit 21-FINAL EXAM for under classman will include:

·  Written test

·  Visual demonstration

·  Student will create 16 counts of choreography to favorite music using techniques learned in class.
