For Whom the Training is intended: / This course is suitable for those who regularly work on the repair, maintenance, refurbishment and retro-fitting of old buildings, but who lack the understanding of the guiding principles for this type of work. The course will improve awareness of the right approaches, and can also add to, and reinforce, existing knowledge for more experienced practitioners working in this sector

To provide delegates with an awareness of the right approaches to take when working on old and particularly listed buildings
Objectives:
·  Understand the Principles of Conservation and Restoration
·  Be aware of the range of coatings and coverings used in pre-1919 buildings
·  Select appropriate working practices to suit the age and status of buildings
Content: / Through the use of power point presentations, tour of the venue, examination of exemplar materials and case studies, delegates will cover –
·  Traditional Buildings and Materials
·  Traditional Coatings and Wallcoverings
·  Principles of Repair and Maintenance, including Statutory controls and consents governing this type of work
·  Guided Tour of the Listed Property
·  Case Studies - Decorative Finishes
·  Research and Investigations
·  Project Planning
·  Assessment for the Qualification – Multiple Choice Test (1 hour allowed) at the end of the second day
