The second education program for International Safe Community Certifiers.
In the International Safe Community movement the accredited certifiers play an very important role. Since 2014 we only use certifiers with long experience and certifiers who have gone through our one- year program.
We invite all who fulfil the background described down and who want to be accredited as international safe community certifier to participate in our second education program. The program is based on communication between you and us via email. The program will start September 1st 2017. You must devote a lot of time to read through the literature and to answer on our questions. The program also include one seminar week in Tabriz, Iran in September 2-7, 2018.
During the course or after you must also gain following experience before you are accredited as an International Safe Community Certifier:
· Practical work as certifier-trainee with a minimum
of three applying communities.
· Participation in a minimum of three site-visits (can be in the own country).
When you have gone through the whole education program you will be accredit as an international safe community certifier.
Short description of the education program via email:
First period. Quality management systems
Introduction to quality management.
Second period. Description of a community?
What do we in Safe community movement mean when we talk about communities? What is a community? Roles, responsibility and overriding organization? What is the responsibility of a Mayor and Director/chief executive officer?
Third period
Indicator 1. An infrastructure based on partnership and collaborations, governed by a cross- sector group that is responsible for safety promotion in their community
In the Stockholm manifesto - you read in period one - you will found following ground-pillars for the Safe Community movement:
• All human beings have an equal right to health and safety
• Accident and injury prevention requires coordinated action by many groups
• Health sector have a crucial role in collecting information on injured people, injury patterns, causes of injuries and hazard situations
• Local programs must include all citizens and focus on the most vulnerable
• Evaluating both of the process and the outcome of an injury control program is important
• An international developing work for safe communities is necessary!
Fourth period
Indicator2. Long-term, sustainable programs covering genders and all ages, environments, and situations.
Fifth period
Indicator 3. Programs that target high-risk groups and environments, and programs that promote safety for vulnerable groups.
Sixth period:
Indicator 4. Programs that are based on the available evidence;
Seventh period:
Indicator 5. Programs that document the frequency and causes of injuries
Eighth period:
Indicator 6. Evaluation measures to assess their programs, processes and the effects of change;
Ninth period:
Indicator 7. On-going participation in national and international Safe Communities networks.
Tenth period
Under this period we go deeper in quality management and how different management systems are.
The period in Tabriz
This week will be organised together with 1st International Safe Community Summer School organised by the Safe Community Support Centre in Tabriz Iran, led by Dr. Homayoun Sadeghi-Bazargani with supports from Tabriz University of Medical Sciences.
During this seminar and examination week every indicator and the homework will be discussed. The role as International Safe Community certifier will be discussed. We also will go deeper in the understanding of quality management in our system and calibration of certifiers
Not that the week in Tabriz will cost a little but the organisers in Iran will support with accommodation and meals. There also will be some possibilities to get reduction of the fee for students coming from low income countries and students with no economic support from their employer. The cost for traveling to and from Tabriz cannot be paid by the organiser.

Background for applicants
All participants in the education program for International Safe Community Certifiers must have following background:
Educational Qualifications:
Physician with relevant specialization (Public Health); and/or Bachelor, Master or PhD (of Science) in Public Health and/or Education degree that is judged as similar by ISCCC.
Experience:
Safe community work predominantly at local level and/or
Safe community work predominantly at the national level and/or
Safe community work predominantly at the international level and/or
Management in health care/public, health/education/safety or other community systems/organisational setting and/or
Researcher in Public Health
Core Competencies
Candidates will need to demonstrate
- Effective communication (written and oral)
- In depth knowledge of the criteria and process required for International Safe
- Cultural sensitivity and awareness
- Understanding of governing of communities
- Good understanding of injury data, evaluation and effective prevention strategies.
