Tameside Local History Forum
I would like to thank everyone who helped me at our Open Days at Newton Hall this weekend, Anita, Lynette, Pat, Florence and Marion http://www.tamesidehistoryforum.org.uk/newtonhall2012.htm. Photographs of the Archaeology DIG taken over the last three weeks are now available to view at photobucket.com/newtonhall – these are in reverse chronological order. And our forum website will be up-dated soon to give an overview of the discoveries.
Our Forum will be involved in a Heritage Market for 22nd June 2012 in Ashton, 10am-4pm. This will be in two venues in Ashton, a family history event in both the Ladysmith Shopping Centre and on Ashton Market. There will also be stalls for many members of the forum to demonstrate all aspects of Heritage in Tameside This is concurrent with the Continental Market Weekend so there will be plenty of footfall. I will need volunteers to help on the day, even if only for a couple of hours. Please email me at:
Cheshire BMD Up-date

Programme for 2012:
13 June – Annual Trip to be confirmed
11 July – Jean Goodall will be coming along to talk about her historical lace collection – every piece has a story attached.
Annual Trip:
I propose to organize a trip to our new research centre at Mobberly for Thursday 14th June. I am trying to get quotes to hire a mini coach and at the moment my lowest quote is £208 for 24 people. I propose to offer a discount for members and there will be a £2 entry fee when we get there. I need to start collecting names of people who are interested in going along. Please sign the sheet or email me
I am starting to get together our programme for 2012/2013 so keep an eye on our website.
New at Find My Past:
They have just published approximately 113,000 new Chester wills and probate records on for the period 1492-1911. The records include all surviving original wills of Cheshire residents proved at the Chester diocesan consistory court 1492-1857 and registered copies made at Chester Probate Registry 1858-1911. These include images I have personally downloaded eight Wills.
