Veterinary Technician Internship Program

Summary of Program

Charlotte Animal Referral and Emergency (CARE) is offering a one-year rotating internship for new veterinary technician graduates. CARE is a state-of-the art veterinary facility offering 24/7 emergency care and board-certified specialty care. Our staff includes board certified specialists in surgery, internal medicine, oncology, cardiology, neurology and ophthalmology as well as 6 emergency veterinarians. The internship will provide direct supervision, teach advanced technical skills and provide hands on experience that will give technicians confidence to advance their career. The internship will offer didactic experiences which will include weekly rounds with doctors and lead technicians as well as wet lab opportunities. After completing the one-year internship, the technician will be proficient in small animal anesthesia, emergency and critical care, dentistry, radiographic techniques, animal care and restraint, client communication skills and knowledge of disease processes and treatments. The internship is located in Charlotte, NC. Charlotte is the second fastest growing city in the US and offers big-city amenities with small-town charm.

Eligible Candidates

Candidates must be a graduate of an AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology program. Experienced technicians that are credentialed (certified, registered or licensed) will also be considered.

We are currently accepting 5 interns.

Schedule

The internship includes month-long rotations at CARE in surgery, internal medicine, emergency departments and 2 elective rotations of the intern’s choice (cardiology, oncology, ophthalmology, neurology). The program will also offer additional rotations at The Carolinas Animal Hospital & Dental Clinic, and 4 Seasons Cat Hospital. Interns will be scheduled a variety of shifts which will include days, overnights, weekends and holidays.

Salary, Benefits and Vacation

This will be a paid internship offering health care benefits (including dental and vision insurance) and a scrub allowance. Veterinary technician interns will have 40 hours of paid time off

Acceptance

The technician will be notified of acceptance by March 15, 2017. The internship begins July 1, 2017.
