Dear parent/guardian
/ Science Week - It’s been great to see such a wide range of science activities taking place in the school this week and children of all ages learning and working together in our afternoon workshops. Highlights have included year 3 and 5 children cooking science for lunch, Fizzpop Science and Paul from Croda doing science with bubbles. Mrs Grainger who works at the Science Research Council led a very informative assembly on the Antarctic and Penguin watch (http://www.penguinwatch.org). My thanks go to all teachers and visitors who have supported this with imaginative interactive lessons and also to Mrs Atack and Mrs Bates who did a splendid job of organising and coordinating the week. All costs for this week have been met by parental contributions, the school and contributions from the PTA. /Dates for your Diary:

/ Maths Challenge - Well done to our mathematical problem solvers:
Murray Norman, Poppy Harris, Michael Lynch, Noah Saunders, Ava Motamedi, Emily Whiting, Imogen Thorp and Euan Lane who travelled to St Sampson’s school in Cricklade on Tuesday afternoon for a maths cluster schools event. Lots of fun was had by all, puzzling, reasoning and solving different mathematical problems with children from our local cluster schools. Thanks to Mrs Lynch and Mrs Thorp for providing our transport.
/ On-line safety - A parent has made us aware of an on-line group chat last night involving a number of our pupils. It is a growing concern of ours that children have unsupervised access to powerful on-line technology which can be used inappropriately and illegally. Please always monitor your child’s online activities. Discuss with your child how to stay safe, what constitutes appropriate / inappropriate online behaviour and how to seek help and support.
Our website has a section regarding on-line safety which contains useful resources. Other materials can be found on the NSPPC website and at https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk .
Please note that many on-line games children play contain a chat element.

/ Red Nose Day – This is tomorrow and will be a ‘dress down’ day for a small donation. There will be a cake sale after school on the playground (weather permitting). Parent support in making cakes and selling would be greatly appreciated.
/ Footy – Noremarsh win 1 lose 2 - Three games played in the last 3 weeks by the school football team. First was a game against table topping St Mary’s of Purton. The team played very well and arguably a draw would have reflected the game better - but we lacked some determination in the final third and ended up losing 2-0. Next, a big cup game v Swindon Academy. The team again played well and had maybe 80% of the game in the Academy half. Academy defended well though and we conceded a breakaway goal that meant we were chasing the game. Whilst trying to get the equalizer breakaway goal number 2 and Noremarsh are out of the cup. So it was back to the bread and butter of the league and a good win against Lydiard Millicent.
Friday after school football club everybody welcome – should be more regular now as the weather improves. (Jeremy Smith).
