Overview
NCS is the government's flagship youth programme for 16 and 17 year olds, launched nationwide in 2013. Over 200,000 young people have graduated from NCS since it began, contributing millions of hours of social action in the process.
Participants experience residential activities away from home and team-based skill building sessions, before developing their own Social Action Project designed to benefit their local communities. NCS aims to create a more cohesive, engaged and responsible society.
Due to successful delivery and contract expansion we require a dynamic Engagement Officer to join our core recruitment team.
We are looking for a charismatic and flexible individual to help recruit young people onto the NCS programme. It is imperative candidates have excellent presentation skills, a persuasive manner and the ability to 'sell' the programme to young people. The Recruitment Officer’s predominant focus is on making young people aware of the programme, through delivering school assemblies and other engagements in a variety of educational establishments (state/academy schools, independent schools, pupil referral units, colleges, for example). A school assembly/presentation is often the first time young people find out about the NCS opportunity so it is essential that the Recruitment Officers are confident in front of a large audience. Young people express an interest in the programme to Recruitment Officers who then work with the wider NCS Team to encourage young people to sign up. Recruitment Officers are targeted to generate interest per school engagement.
During delivery periods of the NCS programme the Recruitment Officer’s role will be to oversee the day-to-day running of the programme, in residential and non-residential settings. The Recruitment Officer could be responsible for up to 200 young people and corresponding staff. The Recruitment Officer takes a managerial role on the programme, rather than a young person facing role.
In addition, the successful candidate will also be responsible for planning and coordinating each NCS programme. This entails developing curriculum content, strengthening community ties and planning and delivering graduation ceremonies for participants.
The Recruitment Officer will assist with seasonal staff recruitment and training, and will help manage those staff during programme delivery. Recruitment Officers are expected to attend each phase of programme delivery. This includes residential stays.
Employment is subject to the provision of satisfactory references and the completion of an enhanced DBS Check. All candidates must have the right to work in the UK.
