YWCA Accepting Nominations for Women of Achievement Award

Ceremony to Commemorate Outstanding Women Leaders of Lake County and Chicagoland

WAUKEGAN, Ill., January 16, 2009 - The YWCA Lake County is now accepting nominations for its 31th annual Women of Achievement Awards which will be held at the Chevy Chase Country Club, Friday, May 8, 2009, beginning at 6 p.m. The Women of Achievement Award Ceremony honors outstanding women leaders living or working in Lake County or the greater Chicago area for their achievements in the areas listed below.

Nominations must be submitted to YWCA Lake County office by the close of business by

Feb. 13, 2009. Awards will be given to outstanding women in the following categories:

Dr. Dorothy I. Height Racial Justice Award - Women who are dedicated to racial justice and equality by actively working toward the elimination of racism in any or all of its forms (personal, institutional, cultural), and are outstanding role models to the community.
Business - Women within the business sector are making a significant contribution in their field and also mentor other women on the way.

Arts and Culture – Includes writers, artists in all media, graphic artists, performing artists, leaders in the fine arts and significant supporters of the arts.

Education – Elementary, secondary, college level teachers or administrators, as well as women who have improved the science and art of education.

Healthcare - Women who are advancing the field of healthcare, preferably as related to women and/or working to provide quality, affordable healthcare for the under-insured and un-served.
Promise Award - Young women, between 18 and 34, who are making a unique mark and demonstrating leadership in any of the recognized aware categories, including Collegiate.
