SWD CRICKET SCORERS ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL REPORT FOR 2009/10

BY MR ERIC EDWARD JACOBS

INTRODUCTION

The aim of the report is to give feedback on the operations of the association and general matters as applicable.

GENERAL OVERVIEW

The general overview of the association is to:

Foster, promote, encourage, advance, develop and generally assist and protect the interest of cricket scoring.

Appoint and ensure uniformity amongst all scorers.

Promote and foster good relations between the Association, SWDCB and its Affiliated members.

Strive and involve all the members of the cricket fraternity in the method of linear scoring.

To my knowledge the association has achieved all the above mentioned goals during the season. The association has had difficulty in providing scorers for all matches because most of the clubs do not have club scorers. Scoring in general took place on a regular basis and good levels of scoring were maintained.

ASSOCIATION COMMITTEE

SUMMARY OF ACTIVITIES

During the season scorers were allocated to score at various league matches. The clubs that were fortunate to have qualified scorer’s praised them on the work done. They all acknowledged that it is an integral and vital part of running an effective club and data processing were made very easy.

Scorers were also allocated to score at Provincial and Regional matches, many of these scorers developed during these games and were very dedicated to officiate at these matches. Scorers who scored at national tournaments were praised for the level of scoring.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The Annual General Meeting of the Association was held on23 July 2010.

TRAINING PROGRAM

Training of new scorers will take place during the off-season and dates will be identified and communicated when training will take place. It has also come to our attention that a number of scorers who were trained in the past are unfortunately not are active at present.

It is still a concern that clubs do not nominate people to be trained as scorers and scorers who are nominated are often players. It is essential that nominees must be non-playing members and will act in a scoring capacity at the respective clubs.

Training took place on the following dates:

  • 14 August 2009
  • 15 August 2009 and
  • 21 August 2009
  • Examinations were written on 22 August 2009.

Fifty-One Participants underwent training of which 24 has passed the exams. The abovementioned scorers will be utilized at matches that fall under the auspices of the SWDCB and CSA. CRICINFO scorers still need to be trained and training will take place during CSA matches because it must be done online.

PLANNING FOR 2010/11 SEASON

During the new season we would like to see that all clubs have registered linear scorers. It is essential that these scorers register at the Association to make the remuneration process less of a burden. Training of new scorers has also been planned and are covered under Training. The training of CRICINFO scorers will also take place at the games as training can only be done online.

BROAD FINANCIAL SUMMARY

The grant from the SWD Cricket Board received to cover the allocation of club matches, transport and administration was R26,650.
