Purpose

The purpose of the Technology Preview (Tech Preview) is to clearly demonstrate that Cisco and its trading partner can exchange electronic business data using mutually agreed upon XML message sets and protocols. More specifically, the Tech Preview must demonstrate the following:

Connectivity between Cisco and the Partner (from/to Partner’s XML server to/from Cisco’s XML server)

Asynchronous communication between the two partners

Successful DTD message translation (primary goal)

Successful protocol/process handling (simulation)

Successful exception and error handling (simulation)

While the Tech Preview may increase in scope, it is important to note that the first phase of the project is not meant to demonstrate the following:

Performance of the electronic exchange (e.g. speed of message transfers and processing)

Integration of XML messages into the Partner’s and Cisco’s existing back-office/ERP systems

Network transport and packaging and routing capabilities

Automated protocol handling

Information Required for the Tech Preview

This is the information that the partner will need to perform the Tech Preview. It also provides details on Cisco’s production environment. Graphic depictions of Cisco’s partner integration environments are included in the appendix of this document.

Polling Routine

The Cisco webMethods server has a polling routine to check the availability of the partner server. This routine does a HTTP(s) GET to the partner's preferred URL. If the response status is 200, 400, 403 or 406 the partner's server status is “UP”. If the status is anything else, the partner's server status is “DOWN”. If the routine throws an exception, the partner's server is “UNKNOWN”. Documents will only be send out when the partner server status is “UP”. The URL for polling may be the same as the B2B URL specified above.
