FPM Trainee e-Newsletter

Welcome to the fourth edition of the Faculty of Pain Medicine Trainee Newsletter.

This Newsletter also provides an opportunity to keep in touch with other Faculty Trainees. Should you be interested in being part of an email discussion forum, please advise the Faculty Office of your agreement for your email address to be circulated to other interested Trainees.

Examinations 2008

Invitations have now been sent out for the Faculty Pre-Exam Short Course. Registrations close on Friday 29th August 2008. For those wishing to attend, please return your registration and payment forms to the Faculty Office.

Trainees interested in participating can now view the 2008 Course Program and Mock written questions at:

The Faculty’s 2008 Examination venue has been confirmed as St Vincent’s General Hospital, Sydney. Information about registering has been circulated by mail. Please contact the Faculty Office if you have not received this information and are intending to sit the 2008 Examination.

Case Report

Following recommendations from the Examination Committee, the Board resolved that changes be made to the Case Report requirement as follows:

That the requirement of a letter to the referring GP be removed, and

That the option of submitting published research for the purposes of the Case Report requirement be removed.

It is emphasised that the purpose of the Case Report is a scholarly exercise and a critical evaluation of the patient’s predicament and to illustrate the complexity of Pain Medicine.

It was felt that the editorial process for a published case report generally removes any value as a Case Report for the Faculty’s assessment requirements of a thoughtful and multidisciplinary approach.

These changes will be updated in detail in the Trainee Support Kit and will be forwarded to all Trainees yet to submit this component of training. Either the old or new format will be acceptable during a transition period until January 2009.

Quarterly In Training Assessments

Just a quick reminder to submit any outstanding ITA reports. The form can be downloaded on the following link and needs to be completed by you and your Supervisor of Training and returned to the Faculty.
