- Claims Specialist, Entry 2017Salary: GS-5=$32,844 or GS-7=$40,684 or GS-9=$49,765.Yearly promotions may follow to the GS-11 level for the Claims Representative position. ($60,210and up) if job performance and progress are satisfactory. (Salary reflects local area= Rest of the U.S.)

Transit Subsidies: SSA employees who use public transportation to get to and from work may be eligible to receive a transit subsidy to offset some of their transportation expenses.
Promotional & Career Development Opportunities: SSA has over 1300 offices nationwide with numerous staff/ management positions up to the GS-15level.
Retirement: The Federal Employees Retirement System provides a 3-tier benefit including Social Security, a Federal Annuity and an employer matched tax-deferred thrift plan. A disability and survivor benefit package is included.
Health Coverage: A wide variety of plans are available, including HMOs. Employees only pay about 40% of premiums.
Eye exams and corrective lens: Many purchases are reimbursed.
Life Insurance: Low cost group coverage is available with a variety of coverage options. SSA pays a portion of the premiums.
Paid Leave/ Holidays: Vacation time is earned at a rate of 13 days per year for the first 3 years of employment; 20 days per year for the fourth through fifteenth years; and 26 days per year thereafter. We observe 10 national holidays per year. Sick leave is earned at a rate of 13 days per year.
Hours of Work: SSA offers flexible work hours and alternative work schedules, time off for personal illness or to care for ill family members.
