Health Description:
This half quarter co-educational course is designed with the middle school age group in mind. The main goal of this class is to help improve a student’s knowledge and understanding that a healthy way of living requires them to make many major decisions over the next few years. This course follows the core content that was set up by Frankfort and hopefully will enable each student to make positive, healthy decisions that will carry over into their adult years.
Physical Education Description: Students in the 8th grade have physical education classes for half quarter. This co-educational course is designed with the age group in mind but with sensitivity to the fact that all students do not develop at the same rate. Instruction for this class places heavy emphasis on participation while students try to set and obtain personal goals for each skill taught. Since this age group also varies widely in skill level, expectations for each particular skill will vary as well. The underlying tone of this class is to have fun while learning through movement. Physical education classes contribute to the social, psychological and mental development of each student therefore the teachers highly stress the importance of students actively engaging appropriately in all activities taught. Displaying proper sportsmanship at all times will be of the utmost importance in this class.
Comment: The main emphasis within each unit is to help the students get the connection between the decisions and choices they make now will affect them later on in life. The class will help them understand the importance of choosing a healthy lifestyle and to be aware of the consequences on making poor choices.
