POLICY FOR PARTNERSHIP WITH PARENTS

EngainesSchool welcomes parents. Our aim is to develop a positive partnership with all parents to enable their children to develop to their full potential.

This policy forms the basis of the Home/School Agreement which Foundation stage parents are encouraged to discuss with their child before signing, by parent at KS1 and parent and child at KS2. The Headteacher signs on behalf of the school.

The Home/School Agreement clearly lays out what is expected of each party, the parent, the child and the school. Whenever necessary this agreement would form the basis for discussion in the event of any difficulties.

The Home/School Agreement also brings parents attentions to the following:

*The School’s Mission Statement

*The aims of the School

*A summary of the Discipline Policy and the agreed simple rules for adults and

children.

1.PARTNERSHIP STATEMENT

1.1The school is a community in which the behaviour of everyone concerned with

the school is based on mutual respect and consideration for others.

1.2We recognise the need for mutual sharing of information with parents and will

endeavour to give parents the time needed for discussions about their

children through formal open evenings and informal appointments with staff and, where appropriate, the governor concerned.

1.3We recognise the need to establish clear guidelines of organisation and processes which are documented in a variety of policy documents and/or the

School Prospectus - any of which will be produced when parents request

clarification.

1.4It is important that parents, staff and governors recognise that working together will enable us to aim to achieve successful outcomes.

1.5We recognise that at times all parties concerned will agree to differ and

compromise where necessary.

2.SCHOOL COMMUNICATION WITH PARENTS

The school will communicate with parents in a variety of ways - also laid down in the Communication Policy.

(i)Verbally & informally - staff to parents

(ii)Formal Open Evenings/written reports.

(iii)Early Years Meetings, Curriculum Meetings, “Meet The Teacher Meetings” Governors Surgery and Committee Meetings. Regular correspondence sent home to parents re: curriculum matters.

(iv)Invitations for parents to meet with appropriate staff by appointment

to discuss their child or parents to request an appointment to see a

particular member of staff.

(v)Special Educational Needs review meetings.

(vi)Weekly newsletter plus additional letters when necessary.

(vii)Explanatory letters with test results etc.

(viii)Questionnaires.

3.SCHOOL EXPECTATIONS OF PARENTS

Parents will be expected to:-

(i)Be polite and reasonable to members of staff, each other, and governors - agreeing to differ and aim to reach a compromise when appropriate.

(ii)Ensure that their child attends school regularly and punctually.

(iii)Ensure that their children are dressed appropriately for school i.e.

in school uniform including P.E. lessons.

(iv)Help when possible to assist in raising money for the school.

(v)Agree that toys should not be brought into school - except when

specifically asked for by a class teacher.

(vi)Agree to support work sent home by the school e.g. reading, spellings,

other homework.

(vii)Agree to teach their child to be polite and respectful to other people -

regardless of their age - and to respect and care for their own and others property.

(viii)To support whenever possible planned educational visits.

(ix)To support the School Discipline Policy

4.PARENT EXPECTATIONS OF THE SCHOOL

The school will be expected to:-

(i)Maintain a safe environment.

(ii)Provide the best and fullest education possible for the children.

(iii)Provide a wide range of opportunities e.g. through after school clubs.

(iv)Promote equality.

(v)Promote the children’s happiness and feelings of security.

(vi)Keep parents informed of school results.

(vii)Ensure a welcome for all parents and allow parents to feel free to

express views.

(viii)Provide a positive learning environment.

(ix)Deal positively with parent concerns.

(x)Provide positive links with the community.

(xi)Ensure that staff are available to talk to parents by appointment.

(xii)Ensure that staff are aware of appropriate educational issues.

(xiii)Treat their children with fairness and respect.

(xiv)Follow the procedure laid down in the School Discipline Policy.

(xv)Ensure that members of staff will be reasonable and treat parents with

respect.

5.There are procedures laid down for parents should they have a complaint.

e.g. Curriculum Complaint Procedure Policy document.

For complaints other than curriculum the parent should make an appointment

to discuss it with the class teacher, headteacher or parent/governor.

6.REVIEW

The Headteacher and staff will review this policy bi-annually

Any suggested amendments will be presented to the Governors for discussion and approval.
