EUREGHA - European Regional and Local Health Authorities Network

Abstract

EUREGHA is an officer regional and local network, which is active on EU health issues and has no political mandate.The network acts as a platform for all interested regional or local authorities with responsibilities in health or in areas related to health. It is a very open network with no participation fees.

The objectives of the EUREGHA network are:

  • To raise awareness at all levels of the local and regional dimensions of EU health activity.
  • To gain access to information about the EU initiatives in the field of health at an early stage in the decision-making process.
  • To enhance the regional and local influence on EU initiatives at an early stage by providing local expertise to the European Commission.
  • To provide a forum where regional and local authorities/organisations and the EU institutions can exchange information and good practice in the field of health.
  • To provide a platform of sharing knowledge of EU policy impacts on the health sector and in areas related to health in the EUMember States.
  • Cooperate with other health networks and non-governmental organisations in this field.

One of our key activities is holding conferences to bring together European Commission policy-makers and regional good practice. Recent conferences have focussed on theWhite Paper on nutrition, the Commission Communication regardingCommunity action onHealth Servicesand EU Presidency Health priorities.

For 2007, the elected Co-Chairs of the Network are the North West of England and the Kent Brussels Office. The Veneto region is Vice-Chair and will Chair from March 2008.
