November 10, 2015
8:00 A.M.
- Sign in-Members signed in and the meeting was called to order at 8:07
- Approval of minutes – Secretary was not present therefore there were no minutes to approve
- SIP Plan (Review and edit)-Ms. Weller reviewed the new format and stated that it was more user friendly. The following components were reviewed:
- PLCs-Ms. Weller provided a summary of dates and meeting times for our PLCs. She also discussed the purpose of these meetings. Teachers plan curriculum and share assessment data that drives instruction.
- RtI – Ms. Weller shared that our RtI team meets every Wednesday. RtI consists of three Tiers. Referrals for RtI come from a student’s previous school or current teachers. Strategies are implemented depending on what Tier a child is on and data collection is ongoing. Ms. Weller also shared our referral and suspension data. Some data questions were raised and Ms. Weller stated she would look into it.
- Self Reflection
- Meetings and Attendance
- Forest Glen Middle is in Band 5 and ranked 29. Our scores listed were Reading 61, Math 60, Writing 61 and Science 45 percent satisfactory. Discussion took place about how the bands are determined and which students are included in these results. Ms. Weller and Ms. Barnett shared the fact that the students who take EOCs are not included in these results. They will be included within the school grade both for participation in these high schools courses as well as their scores.
- Question 1 – Focus-the recommendation by members was Science and Reading
- Question 2 – Best Practices – Science should be implementing the “RACES” strategy to support Science and ELA. Also, we are offering more Biology and Earth Science classes that are high school courses that prove to be quite beneficial for our students. One parent asked if we are doing enough labs? Ms. Barnett responded that yes we are implementing more labs this year. Another suggestion Ms. Barnett made was that science teachers should include review items from the previous year’s science curriculum into their current “Do Nows”. Symposiums are in place where teachers teach to their strength. Also,
remediation symposiums are currently in place.
USA test prep is a monthly online assessment that students take in
ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies. These assessments determine
whichstudents mastered the curriculum presented that month and helps
to determine who needs remediation and in turn drives instruction.
In reading, this year we are implementing Achieve 3000 which is an
online reading program that differentiates instruction to match
individual student’s needs. Also, the reading department is using
Collections Close readers in a joint effort with the L.A. department. This
Program is on grade level and directly correlates to the FSA.
