HOW TO PUT MATERIALS ON RESERVE FOR YOUR CLASS

1. Use a separate Reserve List for each course. List both print and electronic reserves on the same list.

(If no loan period is specified, all reserve materials will be loaned for a 2-hour period only.)

(1) 1-hour use only*

(2) 2-hour use only*

(3) Overnight use within 1 hour of closing, 1-hr. use at other times**

(4) Overnight use within 2 hours of closing, 2-hr. use at other times**

(5) 3-day circulation*

(6) 7-day circulation*

*Renewable, if no other requests.

**Due 1 hour after opening on day due.

2. Complete lines 1 through 7. The accuracy of this section ensures that your students will be able to find

the course on our online system and also indicates that you have read the Copyright Clearance Statement.

3. List the items you want to put on Reserve.

A. Reserve lists should be submitted at least 7 days (1 week) before the class is told your material is on Reserve. It could take this long to process your list, depending on the volume of work we have at the time. Lists must be submitted with the requested books and/or photocopies.

B. All Reserve Lists are processed in order of receipt.

C. To prevent possible confusion, enter items on the Reserve list exactly as you will refer to them

in class or on the syllabus. For example, if you will not mention the author, list only the title.

D. Reserve Room Loan Periods must be indicated for items with print copies on reserve.

E.  Items submitted in print format (except books) will be scanned for electronic reserve only, unless

you request a print copy to be held on reserve also. Items submitted electronically will not have a

print copy made, unless you specifically request it. Please specify if you do not want your items to

be placed on electronic reserve.

F. Audiovisual materials can also be placed on reserve for your class.

G.  Items in electronic formats (including Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat PDF and Microsoft

PowerPoint) can be submitted via e-mail: . Please include the Course Number

in the Subject line of the e-mail. If you wish to place an electronic article from an OhioLINK resource, such

as the Electronic Journal Center or a Research Database, e-mail the proper (permanent) URL to the same address.

H.  Reserve materials will be removed from Reserve at the end of each semester, unless a different

date is indicated. Personal books and audiovisual materials will be returned to your office by campus mail,

unless you pick them up first. Photocopies will not be returned, unless requested.

4. Copyright restrictions.

A.  To put photocopies on Reserve, you must sign the Copyright Clearance Statement

(See item #6 on front). A copy of the Library’s “Guidelines Concerning Photocopying for Research and Library Use” is available at the Reserve Desk.

B. Photocopied articles, chapters, etc., may not be kept on Reserve for consecutive semesters, unless you show us the copyright holder’s written permission.

C. In general, there is a limit of 2 copies of any one article, chapter, etc. Exceptions may be made for unusually large classes. Normally, only one print copy will be made of each article, chapter, etc.

D.  Not all materials can be scanned for electronic reserve within the bounds of copyright law. Entire

books or significant portions thereof (approximately 20% or more) will not be scanned without written

permission from the copyright owner. The book itself, however, may be placed on reserve.

5. The Library cannot be responsible for replacing lost personal copies of books or articles, although every

effort will be made to see that this does not occur.
