GLOUCESTER AND DISTRICT SOCIETY OF RUGBY UNION REFEREES

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Minutes of the AGM held at 19:30 on 16 May 2017 at Hucclecote RFC Gloucester.

The Chairman, Ade Danks, opened the meeting by welcoming members and thanking Committee members for their valuable contributions last season making special mention of Alex Macdonald and Tony Wakelin who had ably assisted with appointments over the season. He went on to say that the Society’s close relationship with Bristol Society was bearing fruit with a number of referees, coaches and assessors progressing towards South West Group status.

Attendance

1 Thirty five members were present (a record was kept). There were 18 apologies for absence.

Minutes of the 2016 AGM

2. The minutes of the 2016 AGM were accepted as a true record by members.

Matters Arising

3. There were no matters arising.

Presentation of Annual Report

4. The Chairman presented his section of the Annual Report for the season. The full report with sections from other Executive Offices had been posted on the Society website.

Society Operating Plan

5. The Chair described the SOP as a living document encompassing the projects that the Committee are working on . The annual committee ‘Away Day’ would be taking place on 8 Jun to brainstorm progress along with invited members and RFU officials. Members were invited to suggest projects to the Secretary in advance of this meeting. The Society website would be updated accordingly.

Announcement of Society President

6. The Chair announced the appointment of David Meek as President of the Society and thanked the outgoing President David Payne for his two year tenure.

Election of the Executive Committee

7. The President took the chair temporarily to oversee the election of the Chairman. Adrian Danks was the one nominee for Chairman: proposed by Nick Palmer and seconded by Fred Spong: the motion was carried unanimously.

8. The following nominees were elected or re-elected to their posts unanimously and unopposed.

9. There was one proposal for Member’s Representative: Andy Barnby,

proposed by Colin Reeves and seconded by Glyn Boughton, was duly elected

unanimously as the Members’ Representative.

Subscriptions

10. In the absence of Finance Officer Les Newcombe, the Chairman informed the meeting that Les had proposed the annual rates for subscriptions would remain unchanged. Seconded by Steve Bowen and approved unanimously.

Any Other Business

11. Press and Recruitmen Officer. The Chair canvassed members for a volunteer for the important role of Press Officer preferably with the relevant experience although this was not essential. He also announced a vacancy on the Committee for a Recruitment Officer. Both roles were regarded as crucial to the future of the Society and members were urged to step forward.

12. Society Awards. RDO Geoff Cove was presented with the Colin Reeves Achievement Prize shield by Colin himself for his sterling work over last season. Society Tankards were awarded to General Secretary Steve Bowen and Tony Wakelin in recognition of their winning the Colin Reeves Achievement Prize and the Clive Annetts Clubman of the Year prize respectively the previous season. County Certificates were awarded to Paul Moss and Ryan Collier.

13. The next members’ meeting would take place at Hucclecote RUFC on 15 August 2017
