Absolutely reliable even under the toughest conditions: our tools in the World Solar Challenge in Australia

For several years now we have supported the development of solar-powered electric vehicles at the Bochum University of Applied Sciences with high quality hand tools, torque wrenches and workshop trolleys. Recently the Sun Riser, the university’s latest project, even travelled as far as Australia together with all the GEDORE equipment. There the car took part in the World Solar Challenge – and with great success: in the world championship of solar vehicles it achieved 3rd place in the Cruiser class and scored as the most elegant car in the entire starting field.

With plentiful sunshine, three square metres of high-performance solar panels on the roof provide 870 watts of electrical power and enable the Sun Cruiser to reach speeds of up to 120 km/h. The two-seater sports coupé thus mastered the 3,000 kilometre rally from Darwin in the north to Adelaide in the south of Australia quickly and without incident.

GEDORE tools: setting the standard

This was due not least to the optimal preparation. Before the Challenge the solar car completed numerous trials and preliminary tests. After each test run the team conducted a complete inspection. Here our tools proved their worth. Even under great time pressure and in the hot, dusty environment of the red continent they could be relied on every time. "The tools’ handles are ergonomically designed so they still sit well in your hand even when you have sweaty hands. These ergonomics allow stress-free and safe working. In addition, the precision and robustness of the tools prevent damage to materials and equipment. So with GEDORE tools we work extremely well, quickly and safely. GEDORE is simply the standard when it comes to hand tools," says Gerrit Telgmann, head of the mechanics team of the Bochum University of Applied Sciences. Naturally we are especially pleased to hear such praise.
