Faith D. Innerarity iscurrently Chief Technical Director in the Ministry of Labour and Social Securityhaving previouslyserved as Director Social Security for ten years.Previous functions also include serving in various professional/managerial capacities in the Ministry of Agriculture, (Director Economic Planning, Head Macro Planning Unit/Senior Agricultural Economist, Assistant Director Data Bank and Evaluation Division, Sociologist). She has also undertaken short-term consultancy assignments with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation in agriculture (IICA) and other multilaterally funded projects in the Caribbean.
As a senior public servant working in the social sector for 26 years,she has contributed significantly to the development of social policies and programmes in Jamaica.
A Social Scientist with severalyears professional experience in social policy and development issues,she has also served as apart-time lecturer in Sociologyat the University of the West Indies, UniversityHospital of the West Indies (UHWI)School of Nursing, the Jamaica Theological Seminary &Caribbean Graduate School of Theology. She isa doctoral candidate in the Centre for Gender and Development Studies, University of the West Indies (UWI), the institution from which she gained her MSc Sociology of Development and BSc Sociology (Hons). She also possesses a Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Development Planning jointly from the Rehovot Development Study Centre,Israeland the National Economic Development Institute, Philippines.
Mrs Innerarity has represented Jamaica at the United Nations Commission for Social Development since 1996 and served as Chairman of the Commission in 2001 and 2002. She has also chaired and presented papers at many United Nations Expert Group Meetings and conferences on a range of social policy issues.Her published works include articles in the International Social Science Journal and publications of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation in Agriculture (IICA) and the Planning Institute of Jamaica, including contributions to the Jamaica Human Development Report and the Construction of Gender Development Indicators for Jamaica (2000).
