Leduc Composite High School

Senior Boys Basketball 2017/2018

Purpose

Congratulations! Your son has been selected to the Leduc Composite High School Senior Boys Basketball team. This letter will clarify for parents and student athletes the expectations imposed on all Leduc Composite High School Senior Boys Basketball team players.

Program Philosophy

The Leduc Composite High School Senior Boys is intended to be a positive experience for all players who participate. Our philosophy is based on providing a high quality, competitive, hard working, and character driven program. The “team” is foremost over the individual and each player will be responsible to exhibit this quality in practice, at home, and in games.

It can be a challenging and time-consuming responsibility being a Leduc Composite High School Senior Boys player and parent. As coaches, we want what is best for our student athletes and our teams and ultimately we want your son to have a positive experience. We will work hard to help him succeed. Playing time and his role on the team will be based on effort, skill, team play, practice habits, attitude, and performance. Playing time is not a guarantee to any player. We have 12 players on the team; not all players will suit up for every game. If your player does not suit up for a game, that does not mean he will never play. Some players will not get as much playing time as others boys and in some games a team member may not play at all. We believe that there are many rewards that come from being part of a team. They include the improvement that comes from every day effort, the friendships made, and the lessons learned. Success is earned through commitment and team play.

Every player will have a role on the team that will be specifically spelled out to him. No role is less important than another. The success of our team as a whole, and the success of your son as an individual, will be based on how well each player performs their specific role.

Player Responsibilities

Leduc Composite High School Senior Boys Basketball responsibilities include:

  • performing at the highest level in practice, games, the classroom, and on campus.
  • putting the goals of the team above individual desires.
  • conducting themselves in a manner which will bring honor to our program and school.
  • working hard at all times to improve skills and conditioning to make the team better.
  • scorekeeping and refereeing elementary/junior high basketball tournaments

Player Expectations

Practice times: Players are expected to be at practice fifteen minutes early to stretch and warm up. Because gym time is limited we must use the time to our best advantage. Practice attendance is mandatory.

Please try to make all doctor and other appointments outside of practice time as it will affect your son’s role on the team should he miss a practice. Players will be asked to practice on some Saturdays. Practices may conflict with family events, jobs and other school functions for both the players and coach. Players must be at practice.

Academic Performance and Development: Players are expected to attend class regularly and to perform at a high level in the classroom. Class must be attended the day of a game in order to participate that day. Student-athletes that cannot meet this criteria will be removed from the team.

Behavior on campus, on the bus, at team functions, and at games: As a team we are representing Leduc Composite High School. With that comes a great deal of responsibility. We expect all players on each team to behave in a mature and responsible fashion.

Cost: Some initial information is that each player will be responsible for a registration fee of $300.00 for seniors paid through ACORN on PowerSchool, or a cheque made out to LCHS, which is non-refundable. This will need to be paid before their first league game which is Dec. 4, 2016.

This is to help cover the cost of tournaments (average $400.00/ per tournament), part of league fees, team photo, practice attire, exhibition and league game referees, team shirt and transportation. A $50.00 uniform rental fee, non-refundable, is also required to be accumulated so that the programs sets may be replaced every 4-5 years.

A few other notes are that some additional costs to the players may be for overnight road trips or if they choose to order extra attire (ie. sweats, hoodies, bags etc. These are optional).

To help run our athletic programs, we are a member of the Rapid Bingo Association and we work approx. 6-7 bingos a year. The bingos are a vital financial resource Thebingo date for basketball will be TBA. As a parent, you may sign up for the BINGO or volunteer to score keep for our home RC Classic Basketball tournament the weekend of Jan. 12-14, 2017.

Finally, we need to have each athlete submit a $250.00 caution fee that will be returned to the athlete after his uniform has been returned. This will be a post-dated cheque for April 1, 2018 again made out to Leduc Composite High School.

If anyone might have any other suggestions or like to volunteer to lead in some activity to cut the player costs, please feel free to contact me here at the school. We can also discuss tax deductible sponsorship donations.

We will have a parent/guardian meeting, TBA, to lay out our team philosophy and answer any questions. I’d like to thank you ahead of time for your commitment to the above expectations and to dealing with the up and down emotions of your youth as the season moves along.
