Deutsch 1 Frau Elke Kuegle

Stevens HS Schuljahr 2008/2009

Guten Tag und Willkommen zum Deutschunterricht!

You will find out that learning a foreign language is a great and enriching experience. Throughout this course you will learn communication skills that apply to real-life situations along with culture and lifestyle. In addition, we will celebrate the different seasons, holidays, and customs throughout the year through food, song, role playing, projects, research, current events, and more.

In German 1, you will greetings, how to introduce and express yourself, and ask for things. You will also learn numbers, time, months, about family life and relations, interests/hobbies, school, food, and clothing. In addition, you will learn insights into the culture through visits by exchange students, guest speakers, travel videos, etc.

My advice to you to be successful in German 1:

·  Try to speak the language whenever you can – use your Deutsche Begegnungen Journal.

·  Don’t be afraid to make mistakes-be patient with yourself and others.

·  Keep an open mind.

·  Work hard but enjoy yourself.

·  Ask for help early! Don’t fall behind. Use the resources available to you: other students, your family, exchange students, the teacher, etc.

·  Study a little bit each day instead of trying to memorize all the information in one night.

·  Find the learning style that suits you best and friends, family members or other students to practice with.

·  Actively participate in class.
