Dear First Grade Families,
We would like to welcome you to first grade! This summer is an opportunity for you to prepare a few things before you join us for school. We have put together a list for recommended activities for you to do over the summer…
· Read! Reading daily is the best way to prepare for first grade. This includes first graders reading or a family member reading to them.
· Practice Math Facts – The end of kindergarten standard is knowing math facts (addition and subtraction) within 5 instantly. First grade is within ten.
We have attached some ideas for literacy and math practice at home. All students should read and practice math over the summer. Attached is a reading log (more available online). There will be special awards for those students who read over the summer and hand in a reading log. The special prizes will be for those who fill up one reading log, special bonus for those who complete more than one reading log!
Links to fun webpages and more reading logs are available on our classroom website http://www.kingstonhill.org/ under In the Classroom. Also online is the classroom supply list and wish list for next year.
We are looking forward to working with you and your family during the coming school year!
Mrs. Corso and Ms.Becky
