The Environment Marketing & Communications Managerleads in the strategic development and delivery of the marketing and communications programme for BITC’s Environment campaign, and manages key sponsor, media and partner relationships.

Main Responsibilities/ Accountabilities:

  • Design & implement the Environment campaign’s communications strategy
  • Ensure consistent messaging and communications standards
  • Raise the profile of the campaign through innovative use of online platforms including social media
  • Manage the BITC environment pages and the Mayday website including creation of content (of all mediums) updating of content, uploading of case studies and website traffic analysis.
  • Produce all materials for sponsors including proposals, reviews and updates.
  • Assist in the design and delivery of campaign events and manage the marketing and communications around these
  • Represent environment campaign on ComNet and deliver on national communications plan
  • Develop and produce all direct mail and communication with the 3600+ Mayday businesses including direct mail, monthly newsletter
  • Manage communications with Mayday Network sponsors

Develop, manage and deliver the environment campaign’s media strategy including:

  • Develop and monitor PR and media strategy and activities, working closely with BITC central media team
  • Write & circulate media release
  • Maintain relationships with key media contacts and partners and liaise with regional colleagues.
  • Maintain relevant guidelines for regional external communication of the campaign
  • Identify potential profiling opportunities for the Environment campaign and specifically the Mayday Network, including articles, and speaking platforms

Develop, manage and deliver the environment campaign’s public affairs strategy including:

  • Monitoring climate change developments in media and public affairs and disseminating updates internally and externally
  • Developing positioning statements and policy updates for the campaign
  • Responding to external policy developments
  • Developing relationshipswith key public affairs figures and bodies, including MPs and civil servants
  • Lead on campaign input/responses to relevant policies and political events

Person Specification

Knowledge /

  • Good knowledge of and a passion for the environmental agenda
  • An understanding of and passion for the wider work of Business in the Community
  • Good business and environment media contacts will be an advantage

Experience /
  • Proven understanding of marketing and communications strategies and techniques
  • Experience of running the marketing and communications for a business facing campaign or initiative
  • Experience of working directly with media
  • Experience of creating and publishing web content and overall website management
  • Experience of using social media to highlight key messages
  • Experience of producing and delivering events would be preferred
