Reports from Windows of Focus
A. Early Years Window of Focus
1) Best Start Consultations – “Reaching our Families” -- June 20
About 35 frontline early years partners from LLG attended the Best Start resource consultation facilitated by a consultant from the Best Start Resource Network.
Goals for the consultation included:
· To increase understanding of barriers that prevent families from accessing services
· To increase awareness of strategies that have been used effectively
· To identify local barriers and enablers
· To discuss how to address barriers
· To identify specific strategies that can be used locally
· To develop a work plan for implementation
Participants developed work plans centred on six identified themes: Access, Advocacy,
Service Philosophy/Values, Collaboration, Information, Awareness/Comfort. These will be
discussed at our next Best Start meeting on September 14.
3) Sub Committee working on Response to EDI Outcomes (Cathy Millard) – a workgroup
continues to develop a communication/media campaign around the Physical Health and
Well Being domain. The messages will target parents and community members and will be
rolled out to target specific sub domains over a period of time (healthy eating, school
readiness, gross motor, fine motor)

B. School Age
1) Youth Service Providers – Youth Collective Impact Workgroup (Tawnya
Boileau, Sue Poldervaart, Brent Dalgleish, Margaret Fancy)
Youth Service Providers met on July 20 to review and provide feedback on the Theory of
Change developed for our Youth CI plan and to identify how their agencies might fit in to
the plan.

2) Power Up Summit Part 2 – Scheduled for November 24 (stay tuned for details)
3) Stepping Up Annual Report -- The2016 Stepping Up Annual Reporthighlights the Government of Ontario's progress in supporting Ontario youth since the release ofStepping Upin 2013. The report includes case studies, and the 2016 Profile of Youth Wellbeing. Our Youth Service Providers Workgroup will review the report and link to local data.

C. Intersection
1) Poverty Reduction Alliance – (Loretta Corbeil)
Planning Meeting: July 12
The following priorities were identified:
i) include those with lived experience to inform Alliance’s actions and priorities
ii) Communication plan/awareness campaign - to advocate building
awareness, education; to decisions makers and the community; create actionable
movement for change.
iii) Continue to promote Canada Learning Bond
2) Transportation Committee – (Sue Watts, Beth Steele)
· Rideshare portal developed (will be unveiled at Lead Table meeting)
· Working on blog to connect organizations who provide transportation with those looking for transportation (also to be previewed at Lead Table)

3) Healthy Kids Community Challenge –

Veggies n’ Fruit Community Boost Initiative:
We had an overwhelming response with this initiative with a total of 26 applications received!
The Evaluation Committee recommended 13 awardees to the Ministry; all of which were approved.

Veggie Roundup Roadshow:
The Veggie Roundup Roadshow is in full swing.
We will be visiting a total of 16 events over the spring/summer/fall.

Danielle (dietician) is highlighting a new vegetable and/or fruit every week

Healthy Eating in Recreation Settings:
Danielle has been exploring various strategies to further disseminate and share the information found in the Fueling Recreation in Your Community Toolkit (attached).
This toolkit was also highlighted at the Leeds, Grenville, and Lanark District Health Unit Board of Health meeting and was well received.

3) LGBTQ+ Training – full day workshop in November
A.M. – general introduction – considerations for policies/procedures
P.M – Workshops -- Supporting same sex parents; gender neutral washrooms; creating a
workplace culture; youth panel; sports inclusion etc.
We will need estimated numbers attending from each agency to help plan for space.
4) Hubs – Sue Watts provided a link with information from the Ontario government’s Hub
