Subsidies

If you need long-term residential care in a rest home or hospital, you may be able to get a Residential Care Subsidy from the Ministry of Health.

This subsidy helps with the cost of care and is paid directly to the rest home or hospital.

Work and Income is responsible for assessing the income of those who apply for the Residential Care Subsidy. This is called a financial means assessment.

The Ministry of Health assesses all other aspects of eligibility, including the start date of the subsidy payments.

You’ll need to get in touch with a needs assessor in your area. For contact details: • visit www.health.govt.nz and search on key words “long term residential care” • call the health Seniorline on 0800 725 463

Our rate per day for private payers is $130.07 for a standard room. This rate applies to respite, rest home or hospital level care. The MOH will pay us an extra top up to cover the extra care fees for hospital level care. This rate of $130.07 is set by the Ministry of Health and reviewed annually on the 1st July.

We send out a invoice around the middle of each month for any care fees and expenses and this can either be paid online or by cheque by the end of the month.

Audits

We are audited by our auditing agency Health Audit New Zealand every 18 months. Every second audit is a random audit so we have no idea when they will turn up. These audits are forwarded to our portfolio manager at the Waikato DHB and also to Certification NZ. A certificate is then issued and placed in the foyer of the rest home.

We are audited by OSH. The last time we were audited we received a 1 rating which is the highest rating able to be obtained.

Fire Safety

For the security and safety of residents the rest home is designed as a series of fire cells designed to slow down the progress of any fire. In event of fire, fire safety doors automatically close to contain the fire. The home is connected directly to the Fire Brigade by an automatic alarm system. A full sprinkler and smoke alarm system operates throughout the home. Emergency lighting covers all halls, living areas, bedrooms, toilets, bathrooms and exit ways, and is turned on automatically should there be a power failure at any time.

The call bell system also continues to operate during any power failure.

Personal furniture and possessions

We encourage residents to bring favourite items of furnitures, e.g. own chair, portable TV, phone etc to help make their rooms more personal. Pictures, photographs, own bedspread and items from home also make the resident’s environment more homelike.

Valuables and Insurance

Residents are encouraged to keep money and valuables to a minimum. These can be locked away for safe keeping by management if desired but available on a daily basis if needed. Residents are responsible for safe custody of their valuables and we feel it is essential that they be covered by insurance. Dentures and spectacles are to be engraved, or otherwise identified. Money can be held at the office.

Telephones

Residents are welcome to install their own personal phone line in their bedroom. There is a phone available for residents to use in the Family Room.
