RURAL DEVELOPMENT ORGANISATION - RDO
ARIMALAM, PUDUKKOTTAI - DISTRICT, S.INDIA
QUARTERLY REPORT FROM APRIL’07 – JUNE’07
We feel numerous thanks for the approval from VIBHA Foundation to serve five poor villages in the shape of “The educational programme for deprived, widows’, destitutes’ and rural poor children”. We feel happy to work among the small children who are our target people. This is the first quarterly report for the year of 2007 to 2008. Before the inauguration date, we conducted five days training programme for VIBHA teachers. On the days, Mrs.Masilamani M.A Bed., Mrs.S.T.MaryDevanand M.Sc M.Phil.Bed., Ms.Agnesia Kanimozhi M.Sc. M.phil PhD, and our project Director .M.Kulandaivelu M.A conducted classes in the topics of importance of valuable education , importance basic knowledge and education, how to improve teaching skill, students psychology and junior psychology. The teachers had given their perfect involvement & participation and got more ideas on these training periods. And also monthly review meeting is conducted on the first Sunday of every month.
All the five centers are being implemented successfully through the co - operation of people. Though VIBHA villages have not proper bus facilities, RDO – VIBHA has involved itself to serve those villages interiorly. We had already mentioned through our project proposal and our project director’s phone call, that we would provide nutritional flour to those children. But because of insufficiency of health, the parents humbly requested to provide lunch for those children. The people couldn’t cook regularly. They cook only one time per day. So, the people preferred lunch than nutritional flour. Already you have known that Indians Oryzivorous people. So, they felt that instead of providing parallel food (Nutritional flour), providing main food (lunch) would feed their children health. So, accepting the reasonable and humble prayer, RDO is providing nutritious and hygienic lunch from 01.05.2007 onwards through the big foundation VIBHA. We give this intimation for your kind and lovable consideration. And also we have provided educational materials like notes, books, slates, pencil, boards, charts and various kinds of books and playing materials to teach them easily. We humbly and happily say that we have got good name from society and villages in very short period than Government balwadis (Care centers for children). The particulars of the centers follow:
Village name: Ayyanarpatti
Teacher’s name: Mrs.Suryagandhi
Total strength: 41
Average Attendance: 97 % to 98 %
(For three months)
Ayyanarpatti is a remote area. The village is full of agricultural based coolies (getting daily wages). After the opening of VIBHA center, the parents go for their work regularly. Those children, who were crying at first, now are coming happily to play and learn with VIBHA materials. As we provide lunch, the children give their attendance properly. The children can spend their time on playing happily and to be taught in the path of wisdom as we operate like in day today activities. We weigh the children once in a month. So, the children are closely observed for their good health. The nurses of 24 hours ambulance service programme (which is distributed by Government of Tamilnadu, S.India for the good administrating NGO’s and RDO also has been selected) are voluntarily interested to do medical checkup for the children, and doing it for the past 2 months.
Village’s Name:Ochankudieruppu
Teacher’s name:M.Kavitha
Total strength:20
Average Attendance:95% to 97%
(For 3 months)
It is a remote area. All the people of the village are poor and agric- coolies. If they go for work a day, they can eat the day, if there is no work, no meal. After opening VIBHA center, the parents think VIBHA center a boon. Now the students come happy and spend their long time with teacher and the same aged children. On the medical checking up day the children were checked well and the malnourished children were identified and referred to government hospitals to take further treatment. A nurse who has additionally finished M.A. in Sociology counseled the parents of malnourished and anemic children. She advised them to care the children specially both physically and mentally. Now the Children feel fresh and happy.
Village Name: Usilampatty
Teacher’s Name: G.Meenal
Total Strength: 25
Average Attendance : 90% to 92%
(For 3 months)
It is a remote area. All the people are agric coolies. Before the opening of VIBHA center, the people felt that they had no relief from their poverty. But after opening, both husband and wife a family are going for work, because their child is cared by our center. When going for work, they settle their child into the center, and when returning, they take him or her with them to their houses. The children learn and play with educational materials and playing kids.
Village Name: Poovampatty
Teacher’s Name : B.Thavamathy
Total strength : 27
Average Attendance: 97% to 98%
(For 3 months)
The people of the village are fully coolies and poor. Most of them are struggling against poverty. The children eat meal probably than nutritional flour. When we gave nutritional flour, it was like a parallel food. But when the lunch that consist dhal, greens, vegetables and oil is provided, it is like a main food. Now the parents feel that, after coming to the center only, the children are being neatly and healthy. The center is going well with the people’s co- ordination. The people were thinking that only the rich children could study and read English language. But VIBHA has offered a chance for their children.
Village Name: Koothampatty
Teacher’s Name : P.Shanthi
Total Attendance : 26
Average Attendance: 95%to 96%
(For 3 months)
It is a remote village. Also these people are coolies and poor. A lot of times they had petitioned to local Government offices and political leaders to open Balwadis for the village children. But nobody turned to that side. But VIBHA has gone in depth of not only the village, but also inside the heart of the people. Now, the people feel immense happy. The children give their proper attendance. The malnourished children are closely observed. They are treated both physically and mentally. The regular monthly medical check up helps the children to grow healthy.
Conclusion:
On June 24th we conducted training for our VIBHA teachers in the topic of “A Healthy and Hygienic food”. Arimalam union’s united children care center’s project officer Mrs. Chandrika, The supervisors Mrs.Vijaya and Mrs.Punithavathy and the Health inspector of Arimalam Union Mrs.Sampooranam and some Government Balwadi teachers participated with our VIBHA teachers. On June 30th- 2007 we took our VIBHA teachers for an exposure visit to other NGO named Grama Seva Sangam-Kilikudi village. There some Government Balwadis and other NGO Balwadis were shown to them. There our teachers found some new educational materials and teaching kits. From July 1st onwards we have planned to implement them
Totally the 5 centers are leaded properly and thankfully. We thank VIBHA again and again for giving this unique chance to work with the small children who are the one of the wonderful creations of the world. We feel that you will also feel about our pleasure. Please kindly lead and suggest us how to improve our centers. In future, we have planned to make a child specialist (MBBS .DCH) physician for our VIBHA centers to check our children once in every 3 months. And also we have planned to conduct sports day for the children and the parents meeting for the parents.
