Salmon Hockey Association

Board Meeting Minutes

January 6, 2010

Board Members Present: Jeff Knudsen, Dan Bill, Thyra Warren, Ross Cole, Tom Taylor, Amy Berasi,Duncan Hedges, Linda Harkrader,Ray and Annette Koerner.

Association Members Present: Steve Walsh, Chris Dopson, Terri Williams

Special Guest: Gary Anderson

Gary wanted to clarify with the Board what his and Greg’s position was on the Option Tax. He said that the original discussions were to only add a 2% tax increase – half of it would go to the swimming pool problems and half should go to the hockey association for bringing in so much revenue during the winter. Gary and Greg were both in favor. However, the final decision ended up adding the 4% tax, and they really felt that was too much and decided against it. They have always been and are still complete supporters of Salmon Hockey and hope the Board has no hard feelings because they were opposed to the Option Tax. Jeff assured Gary that we have no hard feeling and we appreciate everything that the Anderson’s do for Salmon Hockey.

Midgets:

Had a good weekend – won 3 and lost 1 game. Picked up 2 new kids – Cooper Stahl and Jake Hudson. Great bunch of kids this year.

Bantams:

Going to IF this weekend. Charles broke his arm so he will be out for a while.

PeeWees:

Had our first home tournament with 8 teams attending – we finished in 2nd place. Went to McCall and finished in 2nd, went to Sun Valley and finished in3rd, went to Jackson and finished in 2nd. Picked up 2 more kids in December.

Squirts:

Went to Pocatello this weekend to skate in their new rink. Dillon Morgan will be scholarshipped.

Mites:

Have 25 kids total. Practicing on Mondays and started scrimmaging on Wednesday. Winter Games will start on January 23rd. 90 kids are signed up.

Girls U-19:

Hosted a couple of games with Missoula here. Wend to Kalispell and won 2 games. We are having our annual Spaghetti Feed at the Elks Lodge on Saturday the 9th from 5:00 to 8:30pm.

Girls U-14:

Missed practices because of the holidays. Have a total of 12 girls now and it’s going well. Had 3 teams at our home tournament which was a lot of fun. Would love to scrimmage against the Squirts any time. George has been great with the girls. Our regular established practice time is on Friday at 5:30-6:30pm. Other divisions MUST get permission from Thyra before scheduling anything during this ice time.

Adults:

Doing well.

Old Business:

$500 IAHA Matching Grant – Can be used for equipment, clinics, free skate, etc. Tom says that RMHS is willing to come up during the week. SHA can pitch in the $500 and the matching grant can be used for the other $500.

Visitor Tracking – Thyra is gathering information and will have it in a better form shortly. Keep getting your information to her as soon as possible.

Rink Update – Cimco wants to rebuild the motor here – the tool is being built now. We will start tearing the motor apart soon. Cimco will come at the end of January. Estimated cost is $8300. Rink needs major wood work this spring. Need to have a meeting to work on grants.

President’s Report: Nothing to report.

Treasurer’s Report: Got the quote on the rink insurance – it was the same as last year. We most likely will drain the association bank account by the end of this season. We MUST secure some grants and do some good fund raising for next year’s expenses. Please note that all Association fees must be paid before your division fees are paid. Treasurer’s report was approved.

Registrar’s Report: New players are all registered and rostered. Need the Adult’s USAH info in order to be rostered.

Coaches Report: Nothing to report.

ACE Coordinator Report: Everybody that needed to be recertified has done it. Chris needs copies. Geb still needs to complete his certification.

Referee Coordinator Report: It’s very tough to get referees to come to Salmon. Please be respectful to the ones that we do manage to get here.

New Business:

Ice Scheduling – Everyone must have any ice time scheduling approved with the team hosting their home tournament. Don’t just assume you can just have the open ice time.

Helmets – this issue was gone through completely in email. Stick and puck play is on the lower rink – helmets required for EVERYONE.

Power –Annette and Steve Walsh presented a “Rink Power Report” showing a week’s worth of irresponsible use of the power and heat at the rink. This is an obvious area where the association can save money if everyone is more responsible about turning things off when they are done. Annette and Steve suggested imposing a fine to each division that does not turn off power to their locker rooms after practice, but Jeff doesn’t think that is necessary.

Next Meeting: Wednesday, January 27, 2009 at 6:30pm in the Library Basement
