MARRIAGE,GOOD,short helpful lesson on
1. Till death do us part
Rom 7:1-3 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth? For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.
***no room for divorce for any reason (except during betrothal)
***might as well make the best of it since you’re together for life
2. Intimacy is proper and expected
Heb 13:4 Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.
***it is expected that the “bed” be part of the marriage
***intimacy is honourable within marriage…nothing “dirty” about it
1 Cor 7:1-5 Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.
***one of the main points of getting married is so you can “touch” each other
***”benevolence” deals with mercifully meeting the important need of another
***your body is not yours but theirs
***”defraud” means to withhold wrongfully what is due to another
***”continency” deals with having to restrain one’s desires
***the Devil will use this to destroy your marriage; so stay intimate!
3. Love is more than intimacy, husbands
Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
***give of your time and energy to your wife directly, even to the point of death
1 Peter 3:7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.
***husbands, you need to “study” your wife hard so you can understand her
***honour her by giving her “first place” in the home
***she is “weaker” but not inferior, for she is as much an “heir” to the kingdom as you
4. Is one of you willing to follow the other?
Eph 5:22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
Eph 5:33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
1 Peter 3:1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
***words like “submit”, “reverance”, “subjection” sound very negative but are actually quite positive in regards to the smooth functioning of a marriage
1 Tim 5:14 I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
