FOSTER FFA POINT SHEET INSTRUCTIONS
The Foster FFA Scholarship Point System was formulated to give all graduating seniors in the program a chance to obtain scholarship money. The points are tallied for the total amount of time the student has been enrolled in the Foster Ag program. The point sheets are to be completed by the students with help from their parents. The Foster Ag Advisor will be available on the second Tuesday of each month from the end of the last class of the day until the start of the monthly meeting, to answer questions.
All activities that the Booster Club sponsors will have sign in sheets, if no sign in sheet the student will need advisors signature. Any Chapter function will need the advisor signature. Point sheets will be due each month at the monthly Booster Club meeting. The only exception will be summer months. These point sheets will be due at August meeting. The new year will begin with the Annual FFA Banquet, held in the spring and end with the monthly meeting held the month of the Annual FFA Banquet.
All point sheets will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee each month. If there are discrepancies, they will return the sheet to the student and ask for clarification. The student will then have until the next monthly meeting to return the point sheet.
The following is detailed information on each item listed on the point sheet.
MEETINGS(points awarded based on sign in sheets)
Attending meetings (Student Member)
For every Chapter meeting that the student attends and signs in for he/she gets 10 points
Parents attending Booster Club meeting
Student gets 15 points for parent or parents attending Booster club meetings, parents must sign in (maximum 15 points)
Wearing FFA jacket to meetings
Student wears his/her FFA jacket to the meetings and checks the appropriate area on the sign in sheet and receives 10 points
Bringing refreshments to the meetings
Student receives 5 points for each item brought (ex: 2 bottles of soda=10 points; 1 package of cookies=5 points)
Setup and Cleanup at monthly meetings
Arriving early to help set up for meeting and staying later to help clean up after the meeting
CHAPTER INVOLVEMENT
Reciting the FFA creed (1st year members)
Recite from memory the creed to instructor; can only receive points for this one time in FFA career
Running for an FFA office
Student completes interview and test to run for office
Holding an FFA office (local, district, area)
Student is elected and holds office, can only receive points for this office one time during year
Earn points for Degrees held
For each degree level student reaches he/she receives designated points, can only receive points for each degree once in FFA career
Attending Area III Convention
Student must physically attend the convention with instructor
AttendingState FFA Convention
Student must physically attend the convention with instructor
Fundraisers within the Chapter
For every Chapter fundraiser item sold student receives 5 points (ex: meat sales, fruit sales)
LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT EVENTS/CAREER DEVELOPMENT EVENTS (LDE & CDE)
Trying Out
Actually trying out for a team
Member of a Team
Must meet UIL eligibility and actually compete
Teams placing 1st or 2nd at District or Area levels
If the team places 1st or 2nd each team member receives 25 points
Teams placing 3rd through 6th at District or Area levels
If the team places 3rd through 6th each team member receives 20 points
Teams placing 1st through 10th at State levels
If the team places 1st through 10th each team member receives 50 points
JUDGING CONTESTS
FortBendCounty Fair judging contests
Each member that competes in the livestock judging contest receives points
Other judging contests
These are livestock, horse, dairy, forage, etc. The name of each contest should be written by the student on the point sheet
Practices for judging contests
This is for each practice attended, the type of judging practice should be written by the student on the point sheet
High point individual of judging contest
If student receives high point individual they receive 20 points
Placing in the top 10 of the individual
If stude3nt places 1st through 10th in a judging contest
Placing top 10 teams
If the team places 1st through 10th each member receives 10 points
STOCK SHOW ENTRIES
Each entry entered in local Progress Show is 10 points.
Additional 10 points will be awarded for the Champion/Reserve class if the student is called back.
Each entry entered in Premium Show is 10 points.
These include Fort Bend County Fair, HLSR, Austin, SA, FW, San Angelo. Additional 10 points will be awarded for the Champion/Reserve class if the student is called back.
Placing at theProgress & Premium shows (the waterfall system)
1st place = 20 points
2nd place = 18 points
3rd place = 17 points
4th place = 16 points
5th place = 15 points
6th place = 14 points
7th place = 13 points
8th place = 12 points
9th place = 11 points
10th place = 10 points
Waterfall placing system will also be applied to the Champion/Reserve Champion class placings (to whatever level the judge awards placings).
Showmanship Entry (Progress & Premium Shows)
For each showmanship class entered in Premium or Progress show
Showmanship Placing (Premium or Progress show)
1st place = 20 points
2nd place = 10 points
Good Housekeeping/Herdsman Awards
These are entries in the stock shows Goodhousekeeping/Herdsman Events (Premium or Progress show)
For every entry they receive points and then receive points for placing 1st or 2nd
Other Livestock Show Events
These include the Calf Scramble and other events designated by the instructor.
For Calf Scramble they get points for participating in the event and then for catching the calf
Showing Another Foster FFA Students animal at any Progress or Premium show.
Student that assists the animal’s owner will be awarded points.
Showing in TJLA shows. This includes TCCA, TCPA, TCGA & TCLA shows.
Student will be awarded 10 points per show attended. This is a flat fee, not per entry.
Showmanship in TJLA shows – Students will receive 5 points for participating in Showmanship
during a TJLA show.
AG MECHANICS/HORTICULTURE CONTEST/SHOWS
For each project entered (team of individual) each student receives 25 points
Placing at the shows (the waterfall system)
1st place = 20 points
2nd place = 18 points
3rd place = 17 points
4th place = 16 points
5th place = 15 points
6th place = 14 points
7th place = 13 points
8th place = 12 points
9th place = 11 points
10th place = 10 points
BOOSTER CLUB MEMBERSHIP
This is when the parent of the student joins the Booster Club by filling out the form and paying the dues.
Students get points depending on when the parents join during the year
OTHER ACTIVITIES
Announced Fundraisers
These are announced in class and at the chapter and booster club meetings. These are Booster Club fundraisers
Hourly Eventsworked by family members:
These include HLSR program sales, car washes, car show, progress show, etc. These are 10 points per hourper personfor all family memberswho work (ex: mom, dad and brother work with student for 3 hours; that is 4 people x 10 points x 3 hours = 120 points)
There will be a sign in sheet at these events
Hourly Events worked by people outside of the family:
For every person the student brings to help work announced fund raiser events that are OUTSIDE of his/her family, the student will receive 10 points. This is a flat rate, not a per hour rate.
Fundraiser Item Sales or Donations < $75:
Items sales include BBQ plates, crawfish boil, pie sales, etc. These points are established based on the dollar amount sold. There will be given 1 point per $5 sold. (ex: BBQ plates sold at $7 each = $35 sold. $35 sold divided by $5 = 7 points)
There will be a tally sheet kept with names and number of tickets for each event
Donations < $75 may include silent auction items or misc donations for any fund raiser. Student will earn 1 pt for every $5 donation. Silent Auction values to be determined by donor if possible or by Points Committee or officers if donor does not provide.
Major Fundraiser Sponsor/Donations:
Obtaining sponsors or donations greater than $75 each for major fundraisers (i.e. buckle sponsor for progress show, golf player, golf sponsor, silent auction item, etc…). The donation must be greater than $75 to earn points. 25 points will be awarded for each sponsor/donation. Silent Auction values to be determined by donor if possible or by Points Committee or officers if donor does not provide.
Please indicate event & sponsor/donor name on point sheet. Points earned in this particular category are subject to a 250 point maximum per year per student.
Community Service Projects
These are announced in class and at chapter and booster club meetings
These include Adopt-A-Highway, adopting a family at Christmas, etc.
Student gets 10 points per hour worked and 10 points per hour per person student brings that works (ex: dad works with student for 2 hours, that is 2 people x 2 hours x 10 points = 40 points)
These include FBC Junior Livestock Committee at the fair, if joined under Foster FFA
Helping Ag Science Advisor
This includes times over and above the students own project and class time
This requires instructor signature.
Recruit a New Member
The student and new student must inform the instructor that is the new student has enrolled in the agriculture program because of the current student and the instructor must sign the point sheet. This is only good for one time per new student. New students name should be listed on the point sheet.
Recruit new member and he/she joins FFA Chapter
Same as above but the new student must join and pay Chapter dues
Wear FFA T-shirt to school on meeting days
The 2nd Tuesday of each month, if the student wears FFA logo T-shirt, jacket or hoodie all day they receive points
Exhibiting Leadership
This is over and above the normal classroom activities. A student may be teaching a fellow student in the FFA or Jr. FFA program about a project. This is done on their own time outside of school to help the younger or less experience in that project. This is must be approved by the Ag. instructor. Points are not to exceed 25 in a school year.
