Introduction

Milton Keynes Educational Psychology Service is dedicated to applying psychology creatively to improve the life outcomes for children and young people across Milton Keynes. We aim to support positive change by working collaboratively with schools, parents and children and young people.

The service is now offering a full commissioned service offer to enable schools to purchase educational psychology support.

As psychologists employed by the Local Authority we understand the local context, current systems and statutory processes that schools work within. Statutory Work

  • Psychological assessments for EHC needs assessments
  • ‘Removal In’ assessments- initial assessment of children with additional needs who have recently moved into the area
  • Work related to SEN Caseworker queries for children and young people with complex needs
  • Annual reviews at the request of SEN (when appropriate)
  • Visits to children placed in out of authority schools (when appropriate)
  • Contribution to SEN panels and strategic groups

Strategic preventative work (e.. guidance on dyslexia and school refusal)

Attendance at SENCo and parent locality meetings

Commissioned Offer

Schools can buy in blocks of time from an Educational Psychologist. The time can then be used for the following types of work, depending on the individual needs of the schools, families and children involved*:

Case consultations

Staff consultation/problem solving sessions

Staff or parent drop in sessions

Assessment work (including observation, information gathering, and informal and standardised assessment tools)

Interventions- for individuals or groups

Project work

Attendance at non-statutory meetings

Whole school development support (including advice on policies, supervision, research and evaluation)

Commissioned Costs

Educational psychology time is charged at £540* per day.

Priority will be given to pre-booked blocks of time. This is intended to allow schools to plan the overall use of educational psychology time most effectively to support their specific needs. For Summer Term 2017, the maximum number of days that can be purchased is 3 per school. Additional time can also be purchased throughout the year. However, this is capacity dependent.

*Time purchased covers all school based work, all office based preparation and follow up work relating to the task (including writing of reports and work summaries).
