Samsung shares the spirit of African football for

Orange Africa Cup of Nations, SOUTH AFRICA 2013

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologiesand an official sponsor of the Orange African Cup of Nations,SOUTH AFRICA 2013, are creating various platforms and programs for fans to engage and share their passion for football during the tournament. The company has created Fan Zones that encompass the campaign theme ‘Our Passion Powers Africa’.

Samsung is proud of its long standing involvement with football in Africa and will continue to provide fans and consumers with unique opportunities to engage in the game.

Samsung Fan Zone: South Africa, Angola, Cote d’Ivoire, DRC, Ghana, Nigeria and Zambia

‘Samsung Fan Zone’will provide a digital photo area where pictures will be taken for the Samsung Ambassador mosaic and a smart spirit wall wherefans can write messages to their national team. Through these new engagement platforms, Samsung aims to establish ‘Passion’, a different football ‘Experience’and a sense of ‘Fan Collaboration’.

Samsung Mobile Fan Zone

Samsung Mobile Fan Zone will be dispersed throughout South Africa. Theywill be in the form of Samsung-branded trailers with Samsung’s latest products. This ‘travelling Fan Zone’will allow a larger part of the population the ability to engage in the spirit of the tournament and stay up-to-date with on-going activities and initiatives.

Samsung Football Anthem by Don Jazzy

Nigerianmulti award-winning record producer, singer-songwriter and musician, Don Jazzyhas produced and sung the Samsung Football Anthem. The songs include two different versions“Our Passion Powers Africa”and “Built for Africa”. Samsung realizes and believes in the passion that football and music play across Africa, and see this as an ideal way to engage fans while encouraging participation in the festivities.

“Our Passion Powers Africa” will be part of ‘Sing Samsung Song’ competition whereby fans in Africa can upload their personal version of the song through Samsung’sFacebook page in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa. “Built for Africa” will be leveraged as a CM song and will be aired onradio stations and can be heard inSamsung advertisements.

Samsung will have digital platforms for fans to show their passion towards their national team and participate in while standing the chance to win great prizes. These initiatives will be deployed via Samsung social media channels. More football fans can be part of Orange AFCON, SOUTH AFRICA 2013 and show their spirit towards their national teams even though they can’t go to the stadium.

The three main platforms for digital engagement include:

  • “Support your Team and Win”whereby fans are encouraged to upload their passion moment pictures to Facebook
  • “Sing DJ Anthem Song and Win”whereby fans will upload their version of the Samsung AFCON song to Facebook
  • “Predict and you could win”whereby fans will predict match scores

Dream the Blues and Samsung-Chelsea Youth Football Camp (South Africa, Nigeria and Ghana)

Samsung will also engage children through the ‘Dream the Blues’ initiative in eight countries across four continents includingGhana, Nigeria, and South Africa this year. This initiative is a football camp jointly organized by Samsung and the Chelsea Football Club, where six children from above 3 Africa countries will be given a chance to visit the United Kingdom, meet ‘Dream the Blues’ambassadors: Fernando Torres, Victor Moses, Oscar and Juan Mata, and attend a Chelsea FC home game during their stay. This camp will be an extension of the Samsung-Chelsea FC youth football camps that were held in early 2012 in Ghana and Ivory Coast.

Samsung AFCON Reporter

As part of Samsung’s CSR activities in South Africa, they will engage three children from the Samsung programs-Engineering Academy, Solar Powered Internet School and an eLearning Centreto be reporters during the tournament. These children will report on Orange AFCON, SOUTH AFRICA2013 from a youth’s perspective while interviewing Samsung ambassadors, company representatives, football players, fans, and other stakeholders.

Samsung Fair Player Award

Samsung will continue with its ‘Fair Player Award’initiative whereby after every match the company will award one player for their fair play and spirit during the game. A total of 33 awards will be distributed during this year’s tournament.
