St Timothy’s Lunch Club Vulnerable Adult Safeguarding Policy
Why do we have this policy?
This policy and action plan is to ensure that all lunch club members and volunteers have a safe and enjoyable experience at St Timothy’s Lunch Club. The plan aims to cover all aspects of safety including physical and emotional. It also covers what the Lunch Club’s response would be to any volunteer or member showing signs of abuse or having concerns about possible abuse. This policy covers all of the Lunch Club activity – both the café in the church Welcome Area and the meal itself in the adjacent hall.
Risk Assessments
Separate risk assessments have been complete for any hazards in the Welcome Area and in the Hall. Including people moving from the Welcome Area to the Hall.

- Premises will be kept safe
- Church insurance policy for public liability covers the lunch club activity (certificate is in the church office)
- Volunteers to be aware of the signs of abuse pp.3-5 of Diocese document
Food allergies and special dietary requirements / New members are asked by the Coordinator if they have any allergies or special dietary requirements and this is information passed onto the Cook to ensure that this is accommodated. (We haven’t yet had a requirement that we couldn’t accommodate.) / Lunch Club Coordinator and Cook (Brian and Kate) / Current forms to be updated to include section on dietary requirements and allergies.
Personal Care: St Timothy’s Lunch Club cannot accommodate people with personal care needs / Lunch Club Coordinator to explain this to anyone who enquires about a place at lunch club. / Lunch Club Coordinator (Brian)
DBS checks / CCPAS state that Lunch club volunteers are not eligible for DBS checks as the event is purely social.
All volunteers will hold attitudes of respect & consideration. / This will be included in the Volunteer literature & observed by the Elders Team.
Cafe users will be given the opportunity to attend the service of communion - their needs will be taken into consideration ie hard of hearing, sight issues, unsteady movements. / Volunteers to assist when necessary.
Volunteers from Freeman Collegeneed to receive some induction and training including being aware of signs of abuse and who to report it to. / Freeman College to ensure any volunteers have had some training on being a lunch club volunteer before they come / Volunteers from the College will no longer be volunteeringwith us.
Any other volunteers will have a short briefing on volunteering at the lunch club including being aware of signs of abuse and who to report it to / As each new volunteer arrives Hannah will tailor make induction and training for them.
Hannah also to think about producing a Volunteer booklet with useful and approprate information to support and encourage volunteers.
Money is always collected at the start of the time in the hall (publically & openly), written down in a register and accounts reported to VSLT each year / The Lunch Club Organiser usually takes the money or if a trained volunteer does this then the Organiser always checks this has been done properly before the close of the meeting. / No new action needed but continue to check procedure is carried out.
If a volunteer
a)suspects abuse of an older person at lunch club they must report this to the Lunch Club Coordinator.
B) has a disclosure made to them they must not promise to keep it a secret and must again tell the Lunch Club Coordinator
In either of these scenarios,a written statement must be made. Signed and dated.
Safeguarding lead or the Vicar can also report it to the Sheffield City Council Adult Access Team 0114 273 4908. / Ensure all volunteers know that they must report any concerns to the Lunch Club Coordinator.
This will be flagged up in any Volunteer leaflet that is produced.
Lunch Club Coordinator and some Volunteers to attend the Sheffield City Council / VAS Safeguarding Training in 2015 / Lunch Club Coordinator let volunteers know when the training is so that some people can attend. Implement any changes following the training. / Brian / Alex to check with the Council / The training was from CCPAS.

If a volunteer reports concerns to the Lunch Club Organiser then the Organiser will:
- Make a note of the facts and concerns and remind the volunteer to keep this confidential.
- Inform the vicar so that they can report it to Sheffield City Council Adult Access 0114 273 4908
- The club will not investigate it themselves but give the information to Adult Access
Small info / reference pack for all volunteers that easily explains the workings of the Wednesday events and Safeguarding issues that they can refer to if needed. / Alex & Hannah / As above, Hannah to begin preparing it
