Work Experience Programme Description

The organisation:

Liberty is a campaigning organisation with over 80 years of expertise. We protect civil liberties and promote human rights for everyone. We work in a variety of areas, including political campaigning, public awareness, test case litigation, and fundraising.

What we need from you:

We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic students who are interested in the issues that Liberty deals with and are keen to gain valuable experience within a well-known civil liberties and human rights NGO. The characteristics we are looking for are:

·  Keen interest in human rights, justice, equality and/or campaigning

·  Eager to undertake work experience at a non-government organisation

·  Hard-working and reliable

·  Comfortable working on computers and communicating by email

·  Ability to work independently once a task has been explained

·  Able to cope with learning new tasks each day

·  Prepared to work as part of a team especially with another student placed at the same time

What you can expect from us:

Placements are based primarily in our Operations team but successful applicants will gain experience with each of the teams within Liberty.

The work during this your time with us will be varied and is likely to include:

·  Working with our Development team to engage with and recruit new members

·  Assisting our Press team in monitoring Liberty coverage in the local and national media

·  Responding to ad hoc requests from our Campaigns team as they highlight our latest news. Recent campaigns include:

Military Justice - our campaign to protect and uphold the human rights of those serving in our Armed Forces

No Snoopers Charter - campaigning for an end to blanket surveillance of the entire population

Common Values - in the UK the Human Rights Act protects us all, help us protect it

·  Some time spent with our Legal and Policy teams. Due to the nature of their work it’s difficult to capture how you will support them until the start of each placement.

We will cover travel costs to and from our offices (within London travel zones 1-6) and lunch costs of up to £5.
