Southern District/LAHPERD Kaleidoscope Performance Application

Kaleidoscope is a gala performance opportunity for students and teachers to showcase their dance choreography. It is designed to feature choreography of teachers and students from public and private schools, university, and community programs throughout Southern District. Kaleidoscope spotlights premier artists from Louisiana, the region, and the nation. The 2017 concert will be held Tuesday evening during the joint Southern District/LAHPERD Conference. You are invited to participate

Please make sure you follow the guidelines below, include the requested information with a video/ DVD/web-link of the dance(s) to be performed and return by November 15, 2016.

Guidelines:

o  Teacher, or program director, must be a member of SHAPE America. (membership and convention fees apply)

o  College/ University and High School students may attend master classes/workshops at the convention.

o  Elementary and middle school performers must be accompanied by chaperones at all times. Unless specifically invited, K-8 school performers do not participate in convention sessions or workshops.

o  Each school troupe can perform a maximum of 10 minutes (one 10-minute piece, two five-minute pieces or any combination thereof).

The final decision for selecting works to be performed is made by the concert director, and members of the SD Dance Council.

o  A video/DVD/ or web link to performance video must accompany application. Please write a brief description of the performance and enclose it with the video/ DVD or web link.

o  Costumes must be age appropriate and consistent with the artistic intent of the dance.

o  Chaperones are to be no more than 1 per 5 students (this includes the instructors).

o  Chaperones and instructors attending dance sessions other than Kaleidoscope must be registered for the convention.

o  All facilities are to be treated with respect and care. Performing groups are expected to clean up after themselves.

o  Music selection, choreography and costuming must be appropriate for young children.

o  Dance presentation must be the same dance submitted in the video.

o  Rosin or coke may not be used on the Marley dance floor to increase traction.

o  Students must be monitored at all times.

Suggestion: Offer a performance at your school prior to the SD/LAHPERD convention in order that parents, teachers, other family members and friends can enjoy their child’s performance.

CHAPERONES are not required to pay convention registration but may not attend sessions other than the Kaleidoscope concert.

Are there medical or any other information that we need to be aware of? (use back if necessary):

For the Kaleidoscope performance: A brief spacing rehearsal will be scheduled for your group/company. If you do not arrive for the rehearsal, your company will not be permitted to perform in the concert. A CD stereo system will be provided. Bring a separate CD for each dance, with only the music for the dance to be performed. A place to change costumes will also be provided. If your group needs a hanging garment rack or mirrors, you must bring your own.
