Passenger Briefing

G1Prior to engine start, brief the passengers on the use of seat belts.

G2All seats are provided with seat belts having a lever-action, quick-release, metal buckle.

G3The shoulder harness is a standard installation for all seats and should be used with the seats in the upright position.

G4Occupants shorter than 4 feet, 7 inches, are not to use the shoulder harness.

G5The airplane is equipped with two forward cabin doors and a smaller, aft utility door.

G6To open the forward doors from the inside, grasp the door release handle and pull until the door latch releases.

G7In an emergency, the two forward doors and the aft utility door may be used to evacuate the airplane.

G8To open the utility door from the inside, pull out the locking pin adjacent to the door handle, then rotate the handle counterclockwise about 1-quarter turn until the door opens.

G9If equipped with a hand-held fire extinguisher, brief the passengers on its location and operation.

G10Smoking is prohibited while inside the airplane.

G11Finally, determine the pilot-in-command when the flight involves training or is a checkride.

Pre- Takeoff Briefing

G12Prior to takeoff, brief the actions you will take following a failure in addition to departure information.

G13If an engine failure or fire occurs prior to rotation, abort the takeoff and keep the airplane on the ground.

G14If runway remaining is not enough for stopping the airplane, turn the master switch off, place the fuel selectors in OFF, avoid obstacles and evacuate the airplane.

G15If an engine failure or fire occurs after rotation with the gear down and useable runway is remaining, close the throttles, land and stop.

G16If an engine failure occurs after rotation with the gear up, perform the In-flight Engine Failure Checklist.

G17Adjust the airplane’s pitch attitude to climb at blue line, the single-engine best rate of climb airspeed.

G18Place the throttle, propeller and mixture controls full forward.

G19Identify the dead engine with “dead foot.”

G20Verify by closing the throttle.

G21Feather the propeller.

G22Place the mixture to cutoff.

G23Once the engine has been secured, evaluate the airplane’s performance, make appropriate radio calls and land on any suitable runway.

G24When briefing the departure, include type of takeoff (normal, short field or soft field), the initial heading and altitude.

G25If a departure procedure is to be flown, brief the procedure.
