PROCEDURE
Duration: 40 minutes
Targeted Students: 3-6 Grade
Lesson Agenda:
1.Introduction: Light is a Universal Need (10 minutes)
2.Group Activity: Read Stories of people living in other countries (20 minutes)
3.Review Questions (5 minutes)
4.Student Questions (5 minutes)
1. Introduction:
- Brief Introduction of the Guest Speaker, OML and OMS Overview
- Video:
- Debrief on the universal need of light, how we benefit from light and how many kids do not have this privilege
- What do you think of the video?
- How do you use light?
- How would you feel without it?
2. Group Activity: (use Solar Activity Worksheet- optional)
- Divide the classroom into 4 stations; dim the classrooms lights and place a solar lantern at each station.
- Divide the class into 4 groups; Each group visits different station to read about the lives of people living in the developing world.
- At each station stop (5 -10 mins), a student from the group is assigned to read the article to the team. Group discusses what they can relate with this story and what is different. Students fill out worksheet.
- Groups rotate until they have visited each station.
3. Review Questions:
- Class Discussion: One student in the group volunteers to share their learning’s from the story. They need to emphasize what they have in common with the person and in which ways were they different?
- End with a discussion on how lighting is important in increasing productivity, education and health and how the kids can help?

4. Student Questions:
Time allocated for students to ask questions regarding the lesson.
