Campaign Community Intern (Hate Crime)

Work: Part-time, fixed Term from September 2017 until April 2018

Hours:7 hours per week (can be split across two days)

Location: Normally Located on the Hendon Campus, North London

Salary: London Living Wage of £9.75 per hour

The Role

Over the past few years MDXSU has gained a reputation as a strong campaigning Union, developing and empowering students to take action together to make change both on campus and in our local community. This role will play a vital part in supporting the Campaigns team in its work to support student leaders on campus work together on hate crime.

Responsibilities

  1. To develop a community of students interested in campaigning collectively on issues.
  • Conducting necessary research key to the building of the Hate Crime Campaign Community. This will involve working with Citizens UK.
  • Face-to-face outreach across campus and in halls of residence to build a diverse Campaign Community which is representative of all Middlesex University Schools and other student groups.
  • Provide administrative support for an online Campaign Community space.
  • Organise monthly Hate Crime Campaign Community planning meetings. You will be responsible for working with the Community to devise meeting agendas, ensuring turn out, recording attendance, minuting the meetings and doing any follow up administrative tasks.
  • Organising other activities key to the building of the Community, such as inclusive social events.
  1. Creating strong campaigning communities to increase the number of students coming together to make change collectively.
  • Design, develop and deliver training or workshop events to build and develop leaders within the campaign community.
  • Encourage the Community to attend relevant local events, actions and meetings in partnership with Citizens UK.
  • Supporting the Hate Crime Campaign Community to showcase their work as part of the annual MDXSU Diversity Jam.
  • Continually re-evaluate your work based on student feedback and flexibly adapt accordingly.
  1. We expect all our interns to act as ambassadors and representatives of the Students’ Union at all times, encouraging Union engagement with new and existing students at all levels.
  • Be aware of all areas of the Union and able to promote Campaigns and our other areas of work.
  • Positively represent MDXSU to other organisations when you attend external training.
