New Project Ideas For Fall

By Celia Zhang, Projects Chair

Reddish yellow leaves, cool breezes, late sunrise hours—without question fall has loomed across us. But while the weather greatly cools down, our hearts still remain warm. We as Key Clubbers are still getting out in our schools and communities ready to help others, ready to make a difference. Below are a few ideas; old ones intermingled with the new.

Caring…Pass it On is a unique simple project that spreads goodwill across the community. The basic gist of this project is that each Key Club member will receive several cards that say “Caring…Pass it On” on them. Each member is then to do a kind deed for someone, whether it’s buying lunch for them or driving them to school or leaving flowers at their doorstep. Upon performing the kind deed, hand them the card, and they are then to do a kind deed for someone else. Your club can either do this project year-round, or at the end of a two-week period or month, put an announcement in your school news asking any student still in procession of a card to return them to the main office.

Skip a Meal Day

Each day thousands of children die of starvation and other nutrient deficient problems. So, to support children, skip one meal of any specific day, and then donate the cost equivalent to the meal to the Kiwanis International Foundation. This could be an individual project open to club members all year round, or this can be a combined club project. Either way, be sure to send the money to: Kiwanis International Foundation; Attn: Skip A Meal; 3636 Woodview Trace; Indianapolis, IN46268.

Tutoring With A Twist

In United States today, there are many students who desire academic success but do not have to financial means for homework help and assistance that will help them succeed. We have all heard about tutoring sessions and helping kids with homework. This fall, however, take this project to another level by not only offering to help on homework, but also with standardized test review (SAT, ACT, MME, PSAT) and the college application process.

The Foundation for a Better Life is somewhat like the first project (Caring…Pass It On) listed here, but instead of passing on a kind deed, the goal of this organization is to help spread positive values across the community and across the world. To participate in this project, pass on to others what you find inspiring. Whether it is a story of a hero or simply a touching quote, pass it on to others, and spread good values across your community.

Crunchy leaves, rainbow trees, and corn mazes—we slowly experience the season changes. But while everything around us changes, Key Club core values do not. After all, caring is our way of life!
